To those of you who think Ayu is going to retire soon:

Didn't Seiko Matsuda go on for about 25 years or so? And she still managed to have a kid and such. Look how many albums this woman has:
http://www.seikomatsuda.net/contents...bum/index.html
And they're not just dragging out her old stuff either, since she released an original album in 2004 according to that site.. 24 years into her career! She had a Count Down Live on news years eve of this year, a Concert Tour last year, and according to her news section, and she's still getting nominated for awards. All this time and she's still known as the Queen of JPop of her time.. she's the person who Ayu's tied up with for the most #1 singles XD

So, this person seems to be the "Ayu" of the 80s-90s. And she's still around, even after 25 years in the business. So, if this person can still be going on into her 26th year in the business, what makes you think Ayu won't be around for a 10th year? A 15th year? A 20th year?

Yup, she was BIG in those days. Didn't know she's still so active these days though.

I believe Ayu still has so much more that she wants to express through making music. So I don't believe that she'd ever want to just walk away and retire.

I don't think Koda's ugly. I think her style is a bit ho-ish though. She seems like a really super nice person, notwithstanding. But I think she should put her boobies away. I think that most record sales are low right now because of the economy. I mean, when Ayu topped Oricon when (miss) debuted, it was with 650.000 copies, but then the next week all it took was about 80k to put her in second. I think the state of the economy has a lot to do with it (that's also what my Japanese foreign exchange student said. BTW She thinks Koda should put her boobies away too XD).

well it just all depends who the artist is. if he/she is a really gd artist, theyd be able to sell mroe than 250k for 1st wk or sumthing. personally, i dont think the economy plays a huge role in cd sales that much. i mean when japan was in their bubble economy in the 80s cd sales were lower than the days when the economy was in recession in the 90s/00s. n japan's economy today is better than it was 4-5yrs ago, n thats the time when cd sales went over the roof.

I think everyone should shy away from talking about Koda, since people don't seem to have good things to say. You guys have to remember, only recently has Koda reached a higher status - with her best album.

Besides, we have to learn to respect everyone.

No she's not cheap, she just has a very sexy style which sometimes does get to the extreme yet nobody should call her cheap or ugly.

I wonder if these people who claim Koda for being cheap has actually listened to her music O_O.
Her music is very high quality - almost has good as Ayu's.
If you think KODA KUMI is ugly, you must be very twisted.

Anyway, back on topic does anyone know the sales of (miss)understood for taiwan? THAT would be interesting!

I disagree that the quality of her music is similar to Ayu's... personally I think her ballads are really inferior in quality compared to Ayu's. Anyhow Ayu's album is at #7 right now.

guess what. according to oricon, the 4th placer in the album chart sold around 36,000 albums, while the 9th placer (artic monkeys, i think.)sold 29,000 and 10th place sold 19000. (I don't know who the artists who ranked in these places are since they're in kanji) so since ayumi never really left the top 10, she would surely place somewher between 4th and 9th position and her sales will be at the 30,000 range. pretty good drop actually, since the rate of decrease is getting lower. i was expecting a sales drop to 20,000 so hopefully here sales decrease throught the few weeks/months won't be too high.

Exactly. Only You sounded good. Koda is more suited to fast R&B tracks, D.D.D. and You are best.

Yeah in fast songs she excels. Cutie Honey was amusing but still uncomparable with songs like evolution or Audience but to R&B I suppose Koda is the best female artist in that genre.

*note: for they 'year' i dont no if its the oricon yr or the calendar yr they r talking about.

there mite have been sum errors but i guess this is wut the general sales r for each of the years.

a) singles r up from 2004 but down from 2003
b) albums have stayed about the same since 2003
c) economy has little to do w/cd sales
