Yeah, I guess it's done it's job because it makes me really feel for Ayu. She seems like she was just a young girl that fell in love with a man who she thought truly believed in her potential and wanted to be with her, even more than she believed in herself.

It makes me wonder if going through that experience, and finally getting over it and her now believing in her own ability, is why we get songs like MY NAME'S WOMEN, GAME and all the other badass songs she makes.

Interesting that the ulterior movies thing has always been so prominent in her foundation story when it's exactly what went on. Shows how much of it was to craft this image of her being this girl plucked into it all.

Someone needs to bullet point the main timeline from this book, those old radio interviews, and didn't max write a blog about it all a few years ago too? I want to know what's the same/different!

I didn't realise it was written from a first person perspective, so in some ways this is Ayu's autobiography with a self admitted ghost writer?

Is this also about the book ? Something about confessions ?
New show, it will air on 10/28...

(For sure it's getting some good media coverage, I really hope the LOVEppears -20th anniversary- will benefit from it)

I saw this clip on twitter, apparently from today. Something about a "Monster", don't understand what's even being said but regardless I'm really interested in it!

Also the re-enactment looks different, another one or maybe even from the drama?

/edit:

I can't tell if this is Ayu?

^ It's saying that the Ayumi Hamasaki that was created by two people (Ayu and Max) had became a monster. In terms of becoming a HUGE star and losing her own life/choices. Because she became so famous she had no other way to go other than keep in the spotlight. Something like that.

I think I want Sawajiri for Ayu's role. but she's not fresh faced...her personality isn't good as much as her reputation, but to me she's an amazing actress and I love her visuals as well.
I'm really looking forward to the drama.
Helter Skelter movie is gold, no worse than the manga.

The "Monster" statement was also the reason the author chose that specific book title, which I find very interesting.

Firstly, bless the three of you for your truth-telling <3

As with many things, Japan has a double standard about this kind of stuff.

I think you and Chibi are both being a little over the top and actually the ones who are over generalizing a culture. But that's neither here nor there. I just wanted to highlight this statement because Kuu is really not considered an icon in Japan. I like Kuu, don't get me wrong, but she has long been considered fairly irrelevant. And stating something like that makes me wonder if you really have a grasp on the pulse of the culture in Japan.

Secondly, I personally love that the story has added nuance to the most gripping records in her career. Frankly, I came to love Ayu because of her pen, and especially the contrast between her public persona/image and the introspection of her lyrics. To know that her writing was inspired by this profound feeling she had for a man who made her feel like someone believed in her at a time when no one else did—makes her all the more relatable for me and worthy of my respect as a human and a songwriter. Now that Matsuura is her producer again, I look forward to seeing how her songwriting continues to evolve.

Lastly, everyone’s going to have an opinion about Ayu—in Japan and outside. But, Kinsuma aren’t calling her the ‘Songstress of the Heisei Period’ for nothing, and that Sakai cited her as the most memorable soloist winner at the Japan Record Awards speaks to her legacy even now. None of the criticism changes nor negates the love she felt; the magic and power she crafted with her songwriting; the memories and soundtrack she provided to so many of us; the records she set and shattered; and her conviction to live her life and enact her artistry according to her own vision.

Can’t wait to pick up a copy from the bookstore and give this a read.
