SPYAIR postpone their lives due to vocalist IKE's bronchitis treatment

SPYAIR has announced that they will be postponing their concerts on May 10 at Zepp Sapporo and on May 12 at Sendai Rensa.

Due to IKE's (Vo) bronchitis treatment, the band had already postponed their Zepp Nagoya live on May 6. Since then, IKE visited the doctor again and was told that he hadn't recovered to the point where he could perform. As such, their concerts for this weekend and early next week had to be postponed.

Whether SPYAIR's concert on May 17 at Zepp Fukuoka will be postponed or not will be announced before May 16 at 12:00 pm. Details on the make-up dates will be announced once its been decided.

These type of vocal related problems are quite common for vocalists (not just IKE) but with the right proper treatment + early detection , a full recovery shouldn't be any problem

Oh dear... IKE's quitting SPYAIR - maybe because of the bronchitis issue that he's having?

And, yeah - there's that potential that SPYAIR could disband...all because IKE's the vocalist, and without him, there would be no vocalist for SPYAIR!!! If there was a different vocalist to replace him, it will NEVER be the same SPYAIR again!!! I just - cannot believe this...

SPYAIR Members Address Quitting Issue, Vows Never to Give Up

While SPYAIR management has yet to issue an official statement regarding IKE's controversial tweet, drummer KENTA and guitarist UZ already voiced out their thoughts on the matter. While not directly addressing IKE's declaration of quitting the band, both members assured fans that they are not giving up.

KENTA's tweet roughly translates to:

"I'm a fool for not being able to protect the staff, the fans and band members. We can't let it end here just like that. Sorry for making everyone worried! The band members are all not giving up."

UZ, who was the first to respond and whose name likewise trended briefly in Japan, simple tweeted that he will absolutely not give up.

Meanwhile, "SPYAIRのIKE" ("SPYAIR's IKE") continues to trend high in Japan.

SPYAIR's IKE Diagnosed with Acute Chorditis and Vocal Chord Polyp

Sony Music and the band's OHP have confirmed that SPYAIR band activities will be halted following the revelation that IKE has been diagnosed with acute chorditis and vocal chord polyp.

Both remaining legs of their ongoing SPYAIR TOUR 2014 "Imagination", May 23 in Zepp DiverCity and May 25 in Zepp Tokyo, are cancelled.

"The gravity of the responsibility as a vocalist", as the notice on Sony Music's page went, and his deteriorating medical condition reportedly prompted the vocalist to post his shocking tweet the morning of May 21st.

Vocal chord polyp or nodule, according to Wikipedia, is a mass of tissue that grows on the vocal folds (vocal cords). Moreover:

A vocal cord nodule reduces or obstructs the ability of the vocal folds to create the rapid changes in air pressure which generate human speech. Symptoms include hoarseness of speech, painful speech production, frequent vocal breaks, and reduced vocal range.

Treatment, or voice rehabilitation, usually involves vocal training, speech therapy, and, occasionally, vocal rest. In rare cases, surgery may be required. Removal of vocal cord nodules is a relatively safe and minor surgery. However, those who sing professionally or otherwise should take serious consideration before having surgery as it can affect the ability to sustain notes, as well as alter the vocal range.

Acute chorditis, on the other hand, is the inflammation of vocal cords (vocal folds) usually as a result of voice abuse.

Both conditions could require long time medical care. However, singers have been know to bounce back after suffering these afflictions including IKE's fellow jrock vocalists. For example, 12012 vocalist Watru Miyawaki was downed by acute chorditis in December 2013 and had to postpone their Shinjuku BLAZE performance. After Watru Miyawaki's recovery, the band continued their activities only to announce an indefinite hiatus in order to rethink their musical choices.

In 2012, Dir en Grey's Kyo was also diagnosed with vocal cord nodules and was even required to have surgery. Fast-forward to two years later, Dir en Grey is releasing a new album this November and Kyo even started a new side project called Sukekiyo.

Lastly, while it was not really publicly acknowledged what his actual condition was, throat problems of vocalist Hizumi also forced D'espairsRay into disbandment in 2011. Hizumi is not yet fully recovered but he will get to perform again with his band members as D'espairsRay reunite this July for -Angelo Presents-THE INTERSECTION OF DOGMA.

I would really hate to see SPYAIR disband as they're 1 of my most fave artistes & I still want to see them live in concert 1 day someday :x

This is horrrible, SPYAIR is one of my favourites bands T___T
IKE's voice is amazing, I always love it, and without him, the group isn't going to be the same.

I hope they can take a break, but I don't want to see the end of SPYAIR, they have a good future, just look at the sales of their last single.

oh god, nooooo, i really love them. and i love Ike's voice..T_T i hope that a temporary hiatus would solve this out, i don't want them to dissband...but well whatever happens.. fact is the band would not be the same without him...

SPYAIR cancel their tour due to IKE's vocal cord condition

SPYAIR, who are currently in the middle of their tour, have canceled their concert on May 23 at Zepp DiverCity TOKYO and on May 25 at Zepp Tokyo.

After receiving medical examination, it was found that IKE (Vo) has developed vocal cord polyps as well as acute inflammation of the vocal cords, and he is required to receive long-term medical treatment.

Earlier this month, IKE developed bronchitis, which caused the band to postpone 4 concerts that were originally scheduled to be held during May 6-12. With this new announcement, a total of 6 shows, including the postponed lives, has been cancelled. Details regarding ticket refunds will be revealed through their official website at a later date.

After IKE had recovered from bronchitis, the band held concerts on May 17 in Fukuoka and May 20 in Hiroshima. However, on the morning of May 21, IKE wrote on his official Twitter, "I will quit SPYAIR," which brought attention to the band's activities.

Regarding IKE's tweet, a comment has been uploaded onto the band's official website. "IKE's tweet from today is due to the heavy responsibility as a vocalist and the worsening of his condition," they explained. More details on the band's future activities will be announced depending on IKE's progress.

SPYAIR cancels tour

SPYAIR has announced that they will be cancelling their SPYAIR TOUR 2014 "イマジネーション / Imagination".

Vocalist IKE's throat's condition has got so bad, that he needs to rest for a long time. He was diagnosed with vocal cord polyp and inflammation of vocal cords. The band apologizes for everyone who had been looking forward to the concerts.

The members and the staff are hoping that IKE's condition would get better any soon, and they wish for the fans to keep looking over him.

They also announced that the tweets written by IKE yesterday were due to the overwhelming responsibility and the worsening of his situation that he was feeling, and that they are going to make an announcement of their future activities on the official site later.

We can only hope that his condition will become better soon.

SPYAIR will not disband

It was previously announced that rock band SPYAIR would put their activities on hold back in May mid-tour, cancelling the remaining dates. Soon after, lead vocalist IKE suddenly tweeted he would be leaving the band.

Today, their Official Website has announced they will be resuming activities immediately and declared the band will not dissolve any time in the near future.

According to the announcement, IKE was diagnosed with acute chorditis and a vocal chord polyp and underwent surgery to remove them. Since his voice is his bread and butter, the unknown future of his vocal chords probably led to his swift notice to consider leaving the band.

IKE, now completing vocal rehabilitation, apologizes for the trouble he has caused, stating he wants to continue working with the same enthusiasm and feelings he did when he began his music career.

The group also posted a previously unreleased song ‘GLORY’ that they recorded earlier this year.

SPYAIR announces that they will not disband

SPYAIR, who went on an activity break in May this year after vocalist IKE suddenly tweeted that he would be leaving the band, has announced on their official site that they will not disband.

On the official site the band announces that IKE has gone through surgery to remove the pollyps in his vocal cords, and that the band is currently making preparations towards re-starting their activities.

In the comments posted on the site, IKE apologizes for the trouble he caused to fan and staff through his actions, and states that he would like to start again with the feelings he had when he had just started music.

In the end of the announcement they have posted a link to YouTube video with a comment saying "This is a song (GLORY) we recorded in the beginning of this year and planned to release this summer. This is a song we created thinking we'd want to send this to you all this summer. If you want, please watch it."
