The moment you get to the end of an Album and realize that "B What U Want 2 B" is your favorite track.

LOL I didn't even notice that there was a bonus track: David Guetta feat. Namie Amuro, can't wait to hear it.

I also agree, LOVE TRiCKY for me wins because it's more solid and better. _genic has Every Woman which for me is far worse than Parallel World or busy lady (my least favorite two tracks from LOVE TRiCKY). |

I have not shown my face here often and that's okay, because I do not listen a lot to her anymore, but I wanted to give _genic a fair chance.
So yeah, I listened to this album in the background when I was designing and I first started to like it, because Photogenic is great followed by Time Has Come (I know I liked this song, however.. how did it go again?) But then it started to drag on and I lost interest. B Who You Want To Be was for me the most surprising, even though I did not enjoy a bit of it. Okay, so I did not want to come here and bash her, because I think Namie Amuro remains a great artist. But this album did not convinche me to love her again like I used to. I'm sorry Namie, it's not you, it's me. The album got gems though. I am a hugh fan of Photogenic. Damn that song is hot. |

I'm tempted to listen to the album, but I think I'm going to wait until I get my hands on a purchased copy.
I'm cautiously excited. About half of the previews sounded sublime to me, the other half sounded really generic. |

At the end I think that FEEL was more memorable than _genic, even tho I like _genic a lot. The thing is that some of the songs have the same style / same effects, like the harmony that has on Time Has Come, Fly and Every Woman, and with FEEL she was dealing with a lot of different styles (Poison, La La La, Hands on Me), but still playing with electropop, which it didn't happen with _genic.
Thumbs up: Fashionista, Photogenic, Golden Touch, Birthday, It, Stranger. Neutral: Time Has Come, Fly, Space Invader, B Who I Want 2 B (the song doesn't go anywhere, and it's not even fault of the vocaloid, which sounds quite okay with Namie's vocals). Thumbs down: Scream (good lord, what a generic song, and I usually don't have any problems with generic), Anything (sorry, I can't with Namie singing ballad, it just doesn't works for me). What I Did For Love is a good song, but it's a cover, so I'm not gonna judge.

I'm listening to her songs from 2007 (and before) and crying how actually GOOD the production of most of her songs sounded compared to _genic and what she releases noawadays. Just compare any song from _genic to FUNKY TOWN, or even better the amazingly produced b-side DARLING. Be warned though that coming from any of her earlier songs (especially DARLING, lol) and then playing _genic after will probably make you have a heart attack. The songs are not just excessively louder, but like.... well, you'll get what I mean.
For the love of god what is today's music turning into? Nothing but a wall of noise? Last edited by Chiharo; 7th June 2015 at 06:40 PM. Reason: typo |

^ Funky Town is sooo similar to _genic in terms of production and creativity

What I meant by production is the overall audio production, i.e, tracking, mixing and mastering. They are definitely NOT similar in any way whatsoever.

LMFAO you know what I think "B What U Want 2 B" is my favorite off the album for now which is seriously weird and I have no idea what to think of that.

Are you sure you understand what we're talking about here? It's not about what musically reminds you of what or creativity (although audio production is a creative process, we're not talking about composing, writing the lyrics, etc here). It's nothing to do with that. And I still disagree even with that (genic doesn't sound anything like PLAY to me (music wise), but that wasn't even what I was talking about originally).

Well well, after listening only Photogenic until the album leaks I think I was pretty much anticipating this album and, oh well, it doesn't really flows in the direction I was thinking.
Being Photogenic one of her greatest songs since P<F for me, I was expecting something like that, not so many instruments going on, making a dumb mess of sounds, screams, synths and everything just for the sake of being "actual" to the music scenario. I really liked some songs like "It" (which is pretty different so it really stands out), "Fly" (which has the most western sound in the album but it's fine as it is) and "Time Has Come", which has some of the things that I liked in Photogenic: they're pretty balanced, with instruments and voices putted on the right spot and some surprise elements through the music. "Birthday" and "Scream" are just bland generic. There are some songs that starts to be a little fuzzier but they're still good like "Fashionista" and "Golden Touch", specially the last one. Probably if the end of the album were "Fly" I would like it so so much, because everything after it just doesn't seem to fit. Like, "Scream" has so many things going on at a deafening rate that it's impossible to me to stand this music. "B Who I Want 2 B" it's simply ridiculous, like, it sounds like they put 2 machines to sing with each other, I believe if Namie's voice was normal it would be so much better with this contrast. "Space Invader" and "Anything" are just generic as well. "Every Woman" is quite nice but I fell like its lacks something, a plus to really stand out. I really liked "What I Did For Love" for album ending, it fits so well even with the repetitive lyrics and the engrish. On overall this album seems like a safe step on the same spot. It's good, has some great songs like FEEL had, but I was really expecting something more like the Namie before the EDM virus. I guess she doesn't exists anymore hahaha PS.: the music videos are amazing by the way, Golden Touch is still incredible as well with the Anything Chrome Version. |

Wow, okay, I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I didn't even comment on the fact whether I like the album or not. A lot of albums I absolutely LOVE are produced awfully, and that is what I'm talking about here. Even if I don't like it, is there really need for responding in such an accusatory way?
You guys CAN hear the loudness difference in _genic and her older stuff, right? It's these kind of technicalities I'm talking about, not whether something is musically good or not. |

![]() I really don't want to start things or confuse anyone. xD. I just felt the need to comment on this (and maybe I've expressed myself too fiercely, I don't know), beacuse I'm really passionate about audio and sound in general. And I care about music sounding like it's supposed to sound, and not ruined by overcompression because of competition in loudness in today's music market. All I want is for us all to be able to enjoy the music we love, the music that's good in the way it's supposed to be enjoyed. |
