Oh please stop compare 9/11 to the Japan earthquake. They're both awful.
As much as you can be concerned about a disaster, it's normal to be way more concerned when it happens in your own country.
If you'll gonna start comparing every mankind catastrophe.. well, it will be a very long list.

When 9/11 occurred, Ayu was so troubled by it that she delayed the release of her CD so that she could redo the entire theme. This CD was I am..., and the new theme was that of world peace, which she hoped could be achieved in spite of the atrocities that had just happened in NYC.

What people mean by "much worse" is that Ayu will feel the impact of this a lot more deeply, personally because it is her friends, and her family, and her country that are being battered right now. Thousands of people have died. Thousands of people are missing. Thousands are misplaced, thousands are out on the streets or in shelters during a northern Japanese winter. This is terrible. Both things are terrible, but Ayu can look out her window and see the fear and sadness of the people closest to her.

The people here aren't trying to discredit the pain and suffering of 9/11, but simply saying that based on her action towards that tragedy (a rehaul of a CD), it is very likely that something so close to home will impact her even more greatly.

This isn't because the people here or Ayu don't think 9/11 was a tragic event, simply that for Ayu, that event was somewhat abstract, far away in both time and place (the time difference, etc.). The shock of it was probably felt more in Canada (everyone in Canada knows where they were on 9/11) than in Japan.

Anyway, I've digressed and probably repeated myself. Sorry about that. I understand why you're upset, but I think that once you look at the bigger picture you can understand that no one meant to downplay the seriousness of either event.

Edit: By the way, right now the death toll is at around 9000 and continues to rise. Please don't belittle these deaths by saying "but it was probably just Japanese" and "not as many". Even if it were only one death, wouldn't that deserve the consideration of other human beings?

agreed even the death of one person is something tragic... things like oh it wasnt as much or it was just a few hundred shouldnt be said. Each life lost are family members who now have to deal with a tragedy, it affect many people only one life.
