it would have been cool if ayu ranked higher...but she did pretty well! At least she ranked higher than a lot of those artists!! She seems to be doing very well!

Wait a second... I disagree with this number forty two stuff!!! Who always has her bilboard plastered of Shibuya 109? A lot of times its ayu. Who has a million gazillion ads on TV? ayu. Who was number 30 in the world charts? Ayu. Who's new releases are ALWAYS number one on the oricon charts? Ayu. There's no way she's a forty two when her new releases are always at number one for at least a week or two. I think the people who took this did a crappy job. Ever notice whenever people describe popular j-pop artists in magazines ayu is not one of them. The thing is, these days people are getting ayumi prejiduce. I remember an old site I went to before I knew about ayu, a hikki site: they said, The said ayumi was the most popluar, but they also said she didn't deserve the title. Thats what many people think. I think this is list is based on who THEY THINK IS OR WHO SHOULD BE the most popular. Also people think that Ayumi really isn't that popular, it's just false information on the oricon charts.

but i think the chart of hmv measures a different thing here...a lot of those influential like being top on chart, TV ads etc etc occurs to many other artists in the chart too...what makes like the top 10 different is their influence in the jpop industry as to the direction of where the music would go..where the industry is gonna go.....and honestly i dun think ayu is quite there yet....ayu has great power over the audience now but not particular towards the industry as a whole

The chart seems to measure artists from several decades, not just from the past few years. While Ayu may have gotten things moving in the Jpop world, that accounts for only the past 5 years or so, not like other artists on there who may have been around much longer. I quite doubt that this was made because people hated Ayu or anything, as Ayuspeed suggested. Sure... we all like Ayu, and think she's awesome, but when you're contending with much more well-known artists in the past like Seiko Matsuda, a woman who's been around for over 20 years and is still going strong, Ayu can't compare to that.
In a sense, this could be related to the issue about Hikki being in Guiness. Ayu may be the #1 topic here, but that doesn't mean she's #1 globally, or sells the most CDs. Ayu may be on billboards and such, and she may be a good part of Avex's share, but once again, it's overall figures that allow Ayu to get at least 42 in the HMV rankings. |

GET OVER IT!!! The list is based on the past 3 or 4 decades or so. If you see a list like this for American music, there's no way someone like Britney Spears (whose face is plastered all over the place like Ayu's) will be ranked very highly up. You'll see the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, etc. These people are legends. Ayu's only been around for 5 years or so, she's not even close to being a legend yet. #42 is a very reasonable place for her to be.

I didn't get mad, I'm just showing you guys how unreasonable you all are and how blinded you are by your love for Ayu.

Yeah... We're ALL unreasonable. I'm TOTALLY blinded by my love for ayu. Everyone on this forum is TOTALLY blinded by fan-love. (And if they're not, what are they doing here?) Even you are, you just don't know it. (^^); <--is being sarcastic. Seriously, though, don't attack people just because you disagree with them... ~ Anyway, I thought, "Wow! To be ranked in the top 100!" I think it's great and an honor to be in the top 50, even! Amuro was in ayu's shoes in the mid-1990s and she got a lower ranking. It's obvious that ayu's really influenced the business in the past few years. A lot of artists are writing lyrics for themselves, even pop idols. And the fashion trends are obviously influenced by her. It's so cool that she was on the list! And of course I was expecting SAS, Matsuda, Sakamoto Ryu (Ue wo muite arukou...) and them to be on the list. But I guess I was sad to see Dreams Come True so far down on the list when I'd consider them a lot more influencial than Utada Hikaru or Shiina Ringo. After all, they DID make it into the top three for most albums sold in the decade of 1990. Ah well, it's obviously not a definitive list or anything. Cheer up, everyone. ^^

Okay... first of all don't compare her to britney spears. Ayu's popular is greater than her's ever was. And I'm not blinded. I just think she should at least be in the top 30. Top 30. Definetly not top ten. Not top twenty. Just thirty. I hadn't even considered veteran artists.

Why do you think she should be ranked in the top 30 instead of top 40? Name 10 artists ranked above Ayu in that list that should be bumped down to make room for Ayu in the top 30. I think a lot of you have never heard of the majority of the artists on the list (who are legends) and their contribution to the Japanese music industry. |
