Loving the post Zeke!
I'm all for a scaled down tour. Yes, it's different to what we normally get but think how much closer we can get to her in smaller venues if she did come overseas. Plus as long as Ayu, her band and her dancers are there, that's an Ayu concert to me! So yeah, I'm ready to Tweet whenever! I work weekdays but will do whatever I can! |

We all want to see her the next we can, but I don't know why I have to be a global TA member to see her in EU&US , A normal tour will be better because everybody will go, I don't think this is a bad idea but for everybody not only global TA fans.

orangeakira and Zeke pretty much covered my feelings.
I'd rather fly to Japan and see Ayu, and be surrounded by fans, sure. But I'd also rather use that $1200-1700 plane fare on school clothes for my daughter, or my part of the rent for two months, or paying bills. That's an expensive trip and even making a decent living, and I can't afford to take it - neither can a bunch of us! I had plans for a trip to go to Japan this past May and I couldn't do it. It killed me. I'd rather see Ayu in a low-key show stateside than not at all, and honestly I prefer her more stripped-down shows where her presence and her music is the focus rather than her dancers and the stage effects. If Ayu did an acoustic live house tour that was NOTHING but her sitting on a stool and Yo-Chan strumming an acoustic guitar next to her, I'd be completely OK with it. That's an absolute fact. Also, having been to Perfume live in LA... nobody was there because they liked it ironically. People came with their friends who were huge perfume fans, and you could hear them talking about "I have no idea what the big deal is, I'm just here cuz of my friend" at the beginning, but on their way out, they were like "Wow, that was AWESOME" and standing in the very, very long line for concert merchandise. They legitimately enjoyed themselves and didn't expect to - a decent Ayu show could have a similar effect if TA members are allowed to bring one or two guests with them, just as they were allowed to bring a guest to the 2003 TeamAyu tour.

^Yes, I don't see any problem with someone going to a concert if they're not a fan of the artist performing. Maybe they're just there to give their friends company or just enjoy a bit of live music. I don't think you have to be a huge fan to have a right to buy a concert ticket.

Wow I never whould have imagined I whould share Zekeīs opinion one day xD
But yeah, it is just the fact that not everybody can fly to Japan to see her. I personally saw her 2 times and I could say "oh I donīt care, I allready saw her live" but I want other ppl have the opportunity too to see her (and of course I want to see her again too xD) Alltough chances are not high that this will actually happen, itīs worth giving it a try. And the chances for it to happen are higher with the striprd down TA concert than with a big show.

TBH I feel like this is Ayu's attempt at trying to reconnect with TA. More specifically the Japanese TA members. Who've felt a huge distance between Ayu in the past few years, certainly more than anytime before.
To have this become an international tour would kind of lose its meaning. There aren't that many Ayu fans internationally, let alone TA members. While Ayu has certainly said that "Team Ayu" is really all her fans, fanclub members or not, this is very specifically a fan club tour. Honestly the most likely place I could see this going internationally is Asia or Europe. Europe because of the accessibility between countries, Asia because I'd say that's the largest amount of international TA members. The U.S. is hard, imo. It's about 10 years too late. But still, good luck. Of course I'd be happy/excited for you all if it works! It definitely doesn't hurt to try. But just because people have doubts doesn't mean we need to take a "motherfuckin' seat." Thanks though. ![]()

Everyone is right. Limiting it to only TA members would be too much. Let's just ask for a date open to everyone.... I share tokyojapanfan's opinion on the reconnecting thing tbh but i figured that if it is not this time then MAYBE some other time she will. I just want to show her that we are here aa always. It's been almost 6-7 years since when she had awareness of having fans outside japan. She did travel asia with an asia tour twice and went there other times. I know it is not profitable for her maybe but she always saya how a world is one, how we are all under the same sky. Are we second rate fans than? Yes we are all under the same sky until asia is concerned. Lol. so can she just give us ONE chance? I know she loves ALL of us. I would never even try if she didnt hint at this many times with her words and actions, lastly opening the TA internationally. It is not us imagining things, she did lead us to believe that it is possible. Its not like we are asking for charity, we will pay the ticket, even a bit more expensive one to cover the fees. I dont think money is that much of a problem. It's ayu we are talking about, avex finances her pv to be Turned in london and america but can't do that for one concert? She payed an incredible fee only for staying at the hotel in 2010. And if avex wouldn't want to, she could buy her two less pair of loboutins and come to meet us as she always says she loves us. Maybe she wouldn't even need to, she DOES have the money,a lot of it. Aside from kyary and perfume who were big phenomena, a lot of visual kei bands travelled over here in years. They are far less known and i assure you that they have FAR less money. THE GAZETTE and miyavi performed in milan in these years, london etc, doing even more than one stop. Honestly i dont want to sound bitter and this doesnt mean that I love ayu less or am angry at her because i can understand, but i figured that if she has not and will not come overseas it is not a matter of being able to do it, of money etc. She probably doesnt care enough or doesnt want to. We ARE second rate fans in some way. That hurts me a bit but i think It's the realistic truth.

I'm not gonna lie, but that would kill my fandom permanently. Because to me that's disrespectful to longtime fans like me who've never been able to see her live but have still stood by her, bought her merchandise, bought her albums, promoted her to friends, and supported her in spirit. It's disrespectful to the fans that had to do a lot more work to join TeamAyu before it went global. And on top of it, it's a move that she'd be doing SOLELY to appease the greatest number of people - something she's proudly stated she's not the type to do. It's not just Ayu's lyrics that I love about her, it's not just her relatability. But it's some of the principles she works with. Even when I don't like her material, I like that she did it, you know? I appreciate that she does her own thing, I appreciate that she tries to do things herself. That kind of thing. If her goal is not to unite all her TeamAyu members worldwide so there's peace between them and no one feels unloved - which is what it should be - and instead her goal is to keep peace by shutting up the noisy, angry Japanese fans, then... well, I will officially have to tell her to fuck off. But I don't think that's her goal. I think if she keeps the tour to Japan, it'll mostly be a financial move. And I think, like the Power of Music ustream, she'll probably do a live stream for TA members of at least the last show of this tour too. I'll certainly be disappointed by the missed opportunity to unite TeamAyu members into one true group - and I keep hoping that one day Ayu will find a way to do this - but I just don't think her focus is, or should be, appeasing her Japanese fans at the expense of her global ones.

We'd have to consider the symbolic implications of a US/EU tour as well.
Needless to say, A ONE was a return to classic melancholic Ayu. But the kind of grit, subtlety, and industrial influences present in her music between 1999-2001 is still lacking on any appreciable level in her current music. The further she "internationalizes," the further she strays from the style that made Japanese (and international!) fans truly fall in love with her. So, I think her musical output suffers when she always has this in the back of her mind-- ("I have international fans!") she dumbs herself down and releases MOR ballads like The GIFT for her Taiwanese/Singaporean fans and "strange EDM" (as it was called by that Japanese blogger) like XOXO and Angel for Western fans, AND incredibly inoffensive J-pop cuts with cross-market appeal like Step by step and Hello new me. It's terrifying to me how Terminal was almost released in English, let alone even recorded in English. While I do think the Japanese fans can come off as being ridiculously insecure, territorial, and likely xenophobic... There's no question that extensive damage control needs to be done in Japan, first and foremost. The RedOne track on the new mini was probably canned for exactly this reason. Too alienating. But yeah, I agree with tokyoxjapanxfan-- given the current circumstances, I really think the ship has sailed for an American show. orangeakira, I'm quite aware of Madison Sq. since I commute past there for work. It's an enormous venue, of course. I've mingled with quite a few Japanese in NYC and the tri-state, and more than half of them don't even know who Ayu is, and the ones who do know who she is, don't like her. Utada can MAYBE pull off Madison Sq., but even that is a HUGE stretch imo. |

Just because she's doing a TA Tour I don't think it means she thinks any less of overseas fans. It's just Japan is obviously her target market and she maybe wants to give something back to the TA members as there are less incentives to joint TA nowadays.
