Ayumi Hamasaki has declined to participate in the 46th Japan Record Awards. These awards are sponsored by the Japan Composers Association (
site) and are based on merit, not sales. Ayu made history by winning the Japan Record Grand Prix award 3 times consecutively:
2003 for "No way to say"
2002 for "Voyage"
2001 for "Dearest"
Ayu's albums and songs have also been recognized in other prizes besides the Grand Prix. For example "SEASONS" and "Duty" won awards in 2000.
Apparently it was Ayu's own wish not to be considered as a nominee for this year's prizes. Refer to this article for more info:
