i've noticed. never made an issue though lol. it is interesting...

as for the linkin park thing, if it doesn't sound close, i wouldn't make the connection and to me it doesn't sound anything like it o.o

When a similarity is so obvious one can't help but notice.

In any case, I agree for a whole lot, having made this point in a different thread already. I think the riffs sound awfully alike, and even the style resembles Linkin Park's.

Furthermore, I must say that I'm dissappointed by some bland comments; it's not original just because it's Ayu. Consider actually listening objectively sometime.

I've listened to that song before, and I went back and listened to it again and I really don't hear it. That opening riff is sooo generic that you really could say that it came from just about any rock song.

well everyone has their own opinions...
i personaly dont see (about you) sounding like (one step closer)
other than both rockish songs... like SunshineSlayer said ..That opening riff is sooo generic that you really could say that it came from just about any rock song.
BTW i'm also dissapointed... that everytime ayu release something people has to always find something to trash talk it

Now, I'm not gonna stick up for 'About You' entirely, but when compared to 'GAME' it sounds 99% more like 'One Step Closer' than 'About You' does. And I think this mp3 will prove my point.

http://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=FC...9C16820F26FAE8

It plays in the following order

1. Riff from 'One Step Closer'
2. Riff from 'About You'
3. Riff from 'One Step Closer' again
4. Riff from 'GAME'

It just pisses me off that 'About You' seems to get the **** when 'GAME' should have got the **** first...

And didn't Ayu say in a magazine that one of her favorite albums at the moment was by Linkin Park? This could explain the influences...

True, but I think Ayu probably had input as to what she wanted the song to sound like maybe...

And anyway, I find that Ayu's older songs like 'SURREAL' and 'Far away' sound like Linkin Park songs (except maybe not as loud)... and they came out before Linkin Park did anything. And those two songs were (co-)composed by Kazuhito Kikuchi...

errr I think this really is overanalyzing ... Game does sound similar to One Step Closer, but About You was too much of a stretch for me =/ It's obvious BOUNCEBACK's music has a lot of Western influence in it.. and like othes have said, you'll be bound to find similarities in songs if you compare them enough but it doesn't necessarily mean that people are ripping each other off

Now that's just utter nonsense. Yes, the riff is generic, but to say it could have come from just about any rock song is a bland remark. Dig in some rock music before making a statement such as this. Obviously, a riff like this is indeed generic, and a, in my opinion, generic band as Linkin Park uses it over and over. The fact that it ís indeed generic and thus used by gazillions of so called nu metal bands and some other mainstream rock bands does not mean it is a definite representation of rock music. I've said this before in the About You thread: the only thing the pop-world seems to understand from rock music is distorted guitars. A point proven once again, here. It's downright degrading to generalize rock like this.

That's nonsense. This is not about bashing Ayu. Obviously, some people like some songs, some people dislike some songs, and that differs all the time. The negative comments just seem to get filtered out. It seems like negative comments are a no-go area here for some Ayu fans. I'm a fan myself, but that does not mean I'll blindly follow Ayu and love everything she does. That's not what being a fan is about. Honesty and true interest in the artist are much more important.

I personally fail to see any similarity between Surreal and Far Away, and any Linkin Park song, but fair enough.

My brother walked into the room yesterday when I was playing the beginning of the song and I asked him, "Does this sound like Linkin Park to you?"

And he answers:

"Actually I came in here because I thought you were listening to Linkin Park."

hahaha.

Yeah, I did note a similarity when I watched the video.

And just because people are saying it sounds familiar doesn't mean that they're bashing Ayu. Or if they're calling it bad, doesn't mean they don't like Ayu. Not everybody can be perfect 100% of the time, and that means, yes, Oh my God!, even Ayumi Hamasaki.

It's driving me crazy! The minute I heard the first 10 seconds of About You, I stopped it and went, wait a minute. is this the new Ayu song I'm listening to?
OMG, I noticed the exact same thing. I'm like "wait a minute, what is this? Is this the right song I'm playing?" First three notes sound exactly the same as an American song I've heard before... can't quite put my finger on it though.

Perhaps I should have clarified what I meant. When I said that it could be from any rock song, I should have said any current rock song. I agree with you that rock today is bland and that it is capable of being so much more. In fact most of the music that I listen to, other than Japanese artists, is rock from the 70s and 80s.

I don't think that About You is a great rock song, I think it is a very good pop song. I do like the guitar solo though.

i noticed some similiarities!
but it is like lp's one is missing the second half of the melody!
but it is not enough to state that it was theft from them

My 2 cents: these riffs are actually quite simple. Had it been something more complex AND(+) similllar, then it would really something to get pissed at. I still think it was much more of a coincidence than a copying...Ok I do like the song and one could think I have a biased opinion, however the so pointed out riffs:

POINT 1:
For ayu:

-Play just in the beginning of the verse and are simpler
-The sound of the chorus is nowhere near a LP song. I like Linkin' Park a lot but I couldn't feel anything related to them in the chorus of the song
-The guitars are a lot "softer" (I'm sorry I don't have a music vocabulary to make it professionaly understandable)
-Has a guitar solo
-The verses by the other side are quite generic. First time I listened to it I confess I didn't think of LP but Avril Lavigne (not any particular song by her just the "feel" of the sound") instead or any of those overplayed generic pop-rock bands played on radio.

For Linkin' Park

-The riffs play throughout the whole song, including the chorus
-Are a bit longer than the riffs ofrom About You
-The guitars are rougher
-The verses of both songs other than those "riffs" are nothing simillar, in no moment that song came into my mind.
-The chorus are nowhere near something simillar.
-Doesn't have a guitar solo

POINT2:

If I'm to start thinking anything that resembles me of another song is a copy, SEASONS is by far the cheapest copy of Listen to your heart by Roxette (which I don't really think it is) because everytime I listen to SEASONS my parents gets all "Oh you're gonna listen to that song I love it" as if they knew what song SEASONS is (They never listened to ayumi) . Of course they're referring to Roxette as they really like her songs. My brother always jokes "why are you going to listen to Roxette now?" Coincidence? Of course it was, the song overall has nothing to do with the Roxette song.

Do you happen to have the Roxette song for download? I'm really curious as to what it will sound like now ^.^**
