^ I agree.. and also I think you'd better address her with her name and surname.

hehe, that's really nice to see these kind of ambitions in people ^^

i dream of doing something BIG in the future as well, so i wish ALL THE GOOD LUCK to you ^^

i guess SELs may not be the best way to get Avex's attention, but maybe if you can sing them...
i'd soooo like to see somebody from the west getting signed with Avex!

once again, good luck and never give up!

I'd be suprised if they even reply to that letter, I'm sorry to say. You come off as way to much of a fanboy and for Avex to take you seriously, you needed to send them a resume and portfolio of your work.(along with everything else that was listed as requirements on that audition page) Also, I'm not quite sure how you expect to get into Avex with those Sels? Not that they aren't good, but why would Avex need them? Just some things to think about and I'm not trying to be mean - it's just that for a serious job like this, if you really expected to get it, you should have thought it through more.

Also, why didn't someone post that audition link sooner? I would have sent them my stuff.

I have to agree with SunshineSlayer ^ I'm not sure if SELs are what Avex is looking for, though I'm not denying you've done a good job with them.

Nevertheless, if you really ARE serious about pitching your SELs to Avex, you should follow your dream! Just be warned: there's no way they are even going to consider you unless you get a few things together first.

Not to be mean, this is just constructive criticism, (I can't help it, English is my strong point) but this is the MINIMUM I would do to spruce up your application:

---

The letter's really unprofessional, full of unneeded information and fluff. It's going to be hard for Avex to take you seriously when you're gushing so much. Also, there are a ton of spelling and grammar errors that you should fix up.

Choose one language: Japanese or English. Don't write in English and throw random Japanese phrases in there, it detracts from the natural flow of the letter. Write the whole thing in English, or the whole thing in Japanese.

Emoticons -- no way! Those are very very unprofessional. Do you write emoticons in your reports for school? Of course not, because they don't belong in a report, and they don't belong in a business letter either.

You need to address Ayumi as "Hamasaki Ayumi," not "Ayumi-chan."

In your letter, you don't need to mention that you speak Japanese, are a choreographer, et cetera. Things like that belong on a seperate resume where you would list your education, contact information, previous jobs, and references, for instance. The point of the letter is to pitch your idea to them, NOT to talk about yourself and how much you love Ayu.

Last but not least, you have to make sure the SELs you send them are arranged in a portfolio. That includes a demo tape, and a short cover letter if you please.

You might want to get someone experienced to help you put the whole thing together. It's not a matter of "Oh, I think I'll write a quick letter to Avex and see if they like it!" If you really care about your idea, you'll want to take time on it, right?

Basically, you'd have to make it very professional for them to even take a look at it before tossing it out the window. Remember, this is AVEX you're pitching this to -- they probably get a million crappily written proposals from would-be singers, writers, and producers a day. You have to make yours very well-done so it will stand out.

You don't have to post "not trying to be mean" when it's the truth.

You know even if your compositions ARE really good (not saying I don't believe you) it's Avex which picks who you compose for not yourself and I highly doubt they would let a green composer compose for 'Ayumi-chan'.

Yeah, I actually think you should leave the mention of Ayumi out completely - you are in no position to choose what artist you would work for. Your first priority is to simply get into the company.

Yeah, same thing happened to me. I would have liked to give it a try as I have dancing experience - including dancing for television. I'm going to try calling them tonight though and see if they are willing to accept late applications or when they will be holding the next audition.

Yep, I'll let you know. I'd call now, but the site says the hours are 1100 to 1800 which I believe is 11am to 9pm ? And it isn't 11am in Japan yet. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Ok, I just called and unfortunately didn't get any answers because the guy in charge of the audition isn't going to be in the office till Monday. So I'm calling back then.

It was a fun call though(my Mom probably won't be when she sees the calls to Japan though^_^). I got to test out my Japanese skills a bit. hehehe. Me: "Anata wa eigo ga wakarimasuka" Receptionist: "ah umm ahhhh ehhhh LITTLE." lol. They then transferred me to someone who could speak English. So even if you call the number labeled "English", you are going to need some minor Japanese skills.

Ok, I just called again and uh couldn't get a hold of anyone that speaks English.

I successfully asked for Steve though but I'm pretty sure they said he went home. (kaerimasu, I remember hearing) Then I asked when I could call him again and they said "ichi jikan" - I believe that means 1 hour right? Did he just go home for lunch and is coming back? Speaking on the phone in Japanese is nerve racking.
