I remember saying that it was Asia-wide that she sold 2 million..

I read that she didn't even sell a million in Taiwan..

^Yep. But I don't blame them. A lot of CDs arn't worth buying in HK.

2 million is definitely Asia wide. I think the Taiwan-only version for Dancing Diva might be 100k-250k? I don't think anyone has sold over a million in Taiwan alone (Logical since the pop. is only 22 million)

It's very common artists celebrating when they reach certain numbers everywhere. In Japan it isn't, because albums sell well only in the first week (usually) and them everybody moves on to their next single, while in the rest of the world artists spend the whole year promoting the album (and the singles).

Oh and by the way, the 2 million copies (in the whole Asia, obviously) aren't a lie. Record companies can be sued and have to pay lots of money if they lie a number like that...

I'm totally agree. They cannot simply lie about their artistes' sales number. Jolin's J-Game sold more 240k copies last year in Taiwan alone and it was the second best selling album of the year behind Jay Chou. Her first album sold 400k in Asia and her Magic 72 album sold 300k in Taiwan alone and all of them are true. I read them somewhere beside in Wikipedia

Another great examples are Fish Leong and 5566. 5566's first album.which I forgot the title, sold more than a million copies across Asia. Fish Leong's The Power of Love album sold more than 1.5 million copies in Asia. What I can say from this situation is, Taiwan's music market is pretty small. An album can sell 400k-500k or even more than that but reaching a million mark in Taiwan is quite impossible.

On the other hand, Asia is not one of the 3 biggest music market in the world (USA is the biggest, Japan is the second biggest and Europe is the third biggest)but an album could gradually sold 1 or more million copies in Asia

By the way, Jolin Tsai's Dancing Diva sold 2 million copies across Asia? The album was out in May and August is getting near. After just nearly 3 month it has already over 2 million copies. Hmm....... I don't know about that but it's quite possible. Who knows.

I guess it's possible to sell that in so little time because when they say "2 million copies sold", they mean shipped (sold to stores).

Jolin Tsai's Dacing Diva has sold about 250k in Taiwan so far. So, according to the percentage, (m)u sold about 88068 copies! Pretty good!

About the 2 million thing: I have to say that some companies do fake in announcing sales sometimes. But as a matter of fact they COULD sell that figure. Take a look at the mainland of China, such a large population means a big number of buyers. And ppl now don't really buy illegal records because more and more bills and acts are coming into existence. Plus that 2 million is based on the whole Asian Market. That means out of China, ppl in other asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia etc are also buying the records. So 2 million is reasonable.

of course jolin has got fans all over asia, but of course not as many as you imagined.

Record Companies lie about their aritists' sales in order to earn more...i don't wanna explain more, becuz the Taiwanese companies have already lost their trust...

of course china is the only country that jolin has the most fans, and almost all her sales come from china, don't argue with me about this. you never how bad the chinese record market is.. it was messy, how to say...terrible, legal releases sell poor, while most of the people are downloading illegally!
of course the so-called ** million is impossible, since taiwanese idols main market is bad and bad and bad.
there are some of her fans in the other countries, but since they don't speak chinese and their population is poor(china has 1.3billion people). the overseas sale won't be high...

besides, did you ever noticed that those taiwanese artists always annouced their "all-asia" sales, but never their taiwan sales...why??becuz there aren't any institution that counts the whole asia's sales, it can't be proved if the announced figure is fake. and their isn't any institution that is like ORICON, telling you the chinese mainland's sale or asia's sales.

let me give you an example, a chinese star called Fan Bingbing, she belongs to a taiwan company, and they anounced that her debut album sells 30k. and their held a celebration! but the reporters questioned that, did your sale really reach that figure?? after a long-term questioning, she recognized that "maybe it's a little exaggeration".

Not all record companies are liars but I agree with this point. No "oricon" or "billboard" in China and Southeast Asian countries.

I think she is able to sell 2 million. I already know how bad downloading/bootlegs etc. it is, but 2 million really isn't a lot considering how many people actually speak Chinese in Asia. Let's say 99% of China's population either download the album, buy a bootleg or are too poor to buy the album and the 1% actually buys the real thing. The 1% is already 10,000,000 potential 'real album' buyers'. So really, 1-3 million for all of Asia isn't "impossible" if the artist is insanely popular and/or if the album is really really good.

The closest thing to oricon in the Chinese speaking areas would be the IFPI. I know that they have one in Hong Kong, that counts the number of CDs shipped, so I'm guessing they have one in Taiwan/S'pore etc. Plus, an "all-asia" number a) sounds nicer and b ) their album isn't just sold in Taiwan but in all the Chinese areas of Asia
