LOL, those pics on the last page are so funny. The food was so spicy she actually cried.

I wonder if the rabbit marshmallows are based off of Peeps...

Is it really? Because never in all my years of having Chinese banquets have I ever seen marshmallow bunnies.

They can't be marshmallows... they should be mantou (or Chinese steamed buns; 饅頭) actually. Mantou bunny is a quite common decoration used on Chinese dishes, but doesn't mean you'll always encounter it. It depends on if that particular Chinese restaurant using it or not.

PS: I just look at the last pic again (cuz I didn't really look at it carefully beforehand)... I thought you're talking about something used as decorations... LOL. Apparently they look more like buns to me now. The bunnies looks like BBQ buns except no BBQ + in different shapes. That's all.

I will guess that most seeing the pics don't read Japanese because Ayu writes that they are "usagi no mashumaro" = "marshmallow bunnies." After looking it up, evidently, these marshmallow critters are usually rolled in coconut shavings.

It'd be sad if I couldn't recognize mantou as I am Chinese. :/

LOL, . When you talked about bunnies I was thinking something else (cuz I didn't look at the pic while looking at the scan). So I thought you're talking about the bunnie mantou, the ones used as decorations at the side of a plate. After that I reloaded that pic again and looked at the bunnies and I knew it couldn't be mantou . I couldn't read Japanese so I didn't know what that was . So my guess was some buns . My bad my bad
