Actually I do not think they are THAT different. THey serve the same purpose. The lyrics aren't on totally different planets and the general atmosphere of the melodies (allthough the arrangements are different) is not all that different. THey are both nostalgic and very beautiful melodies. Yes they are different, but somehow they still remindme of one another. One a little more dramatic and aggressive, the other more calm an pleasant, but both a little sad.

I think Zankoku is the song most people think of when they think of Evangelion...and it's been SO long. That song is Eva's staple.

残酷な天使のテーゼ without a single doubt. It's probably the most classic anime of all time in my opinion. I can't believe this is even a contest. Anyone who voted for Beautiful World must have never watched Eva before .

"Cruel Angel's Thesis" is one of the MOST classic anime theme songs of all time. I grew up listening to that song (early-mid 1990's). So that song wins hands down.

Sorry Hikki as much I as adore you, you just can't top Cruel Angel's Thesis.
