I'm still not seeing a lot of the criticisms people keep giving her (and I don't mean in this thread, but in general). I keep hearing people say she has no personality, but I think there's a difference between having no personality and just being polite and not extremely extroverted. Anyways, I'm loving Better In Time. It's not as good as Bleeding Love, but I really like it a lot. I hope it's the next single here, because I have a feeling it will also do well.

I love this girl! But IMO, "Better in Time" was a better single than "Bleeding Love."

I probably enjoy her performances on the X-Factor more than anything she's recorded though. Her "Over the Rainbow" and "Without You" performances were just absolutely amazing!

^ "Bleeding Love" is her second in the UK. "A Moment Like This" was her first, and "Footprints In The Sand / Better In Time" is her third.

in the US "BL" was her first and I don't think they've announced a second one yet.

Why did they make a new video for the US release of Bleeding Love? The first was much better, IMO, and that dress more memorable than anything in the second video.

I was wondering that as well. Maybe they thought the UK version of the video wouldn't appeal to American audiences, but I'm American and I thought it was much better than the US version. Either way, the song's doing quite well here. It's unfortunate that she's now below to dull songs though, just because those artists are famous already.

So did anyone else besides me purchase Spirit in stores yesterday? I bought it at Best Buy for only $9.99 (gotta love first week new release sales). The CD is better than I expected, and I had pretty high hopes. Almost every song has the potential to be a hit. There are probably a total of two songs that I'm just kind of meh about (The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Yesterday), but the rest are pretty much pure gold. I especially love I Will Be. OK, I love them all so it's hard to just mention one. I guess my top 5, including singles, would be:

1. Bleeding Love
2. I Will Be
3. Better In Time
4. Take A Bow
5. I'm You/Footprints In The Sand

Yeah, I don't understand why the UK version had A Moment Like This and we didn't get it. Everyone in America knows that song, so I'm sure it would have been a pleasant surprise for many to see it. You Bring Me Down and The Best You Never Had were great as well. I do really like Forgive Me and Misses Glass though, so it's hard for me to complain about the US exclusive tracks in comparison to those from the UK edition.

BBC:

Leona Lewis has become the first British solo artist to go straight to number one in the US album chart.

Her debut album Spirit shot to the top spot three weeks after her power ballad Bleeding Love went to number one in the US singles rundown.

Spirit sold 205,000 copies in its first week, according to Billboard magazine.
Quote:
The last British woman to top the US album chart was Sade with Promise in 1986.
That's a major achievement.

Her debut album is alright. I only listened to the UK release, but it's a decent album. Besides Bleeding Love, Take A Bow, Homeless, & Yesterday are the best. The rest are whatever, not really memorable.

I wasn't going to bother with this CD but I found it on KMC, listened to it, and got exactly what I had expected. Not a whole lot. A very manufactured, very filler-heavy first album like most. Not impressed but not hating it.

Bleeding Love returned to #1, so I guess she at least temporarily beat Mariah on a US chart.

That's great to hear. As much as I love Touch My Body, Bleeding Love is much more deserving of the top spot in my opinion. Mariah can have her number one sales for E=MC2. I'm just glad Leona got those for the first week. I hope they really promote the album's future singles as well as Bleeding Love so that the album ends up becoming enormously successful here.
