Shiina Ringo is, well...was amazing. I haven't really cared for anything she's done since her first album with Tokyo Jihen (and that was quite awhile ago). I highly recommend that album and her first three solo albums though. I think Shouso Strip is undoubtedly her best. I think her debut album is a close second in terms of being her best, so try those out if you want to hear some of her best/most popular songs (i.e. Honnou, Tsumi to Batsu, Koko de Kiss Shite, Kabukichou no Joou). She also has some insane music videos that are both creepy and captivating.

As for the Honnou video and lesbianism: I heard that the scene where she kisses the other girl is supposed to represent masturbation. The woman she kisses is supposed to look just like her, so as to represent having sex with yourself. The entire song is apparently about the fact that not only men, but women too, have sexual desires.

I've always heard about Shiina being amazing, but never got into her....I listened to some of the songs you guys suggested, like Honnou, but sadly I'm not digging any of them. Her voice grates on me, for one thing. Oh well, I guess she's just not for me. I'll send Honnou to my boyfriend, though, he might like it.

I know what you mean. I'm a fan, but I do think she's a little overrated sometimes. I'd never deny her great artistical ability, amazing composition skills and creativity though, and, aside from most of the Tokyo Jihen stuff, I do actually love/enjoy many of her songs from her regular solo career, but I don't think she's for everybody's tastes. I've seem hardcore shiina ringo fans complaining that certain artists songs are too loud/noisy/ screamy, and I was like "wth, aren't you a shiina ringo fan? Why are you complaining when that artist is is loud and screamy in one of their songs when shiina does it in most of her songs and when she does it you say it's supposed to be the finest state of art? contradictory nonsense imo". If you like noise, you won't be complaining if other artists do it. I think some of her songs would sound better if they removed some of the noises and distortions, but i guess that's kind of a signature? My brother often complains a lot when I listen to shiina and he's around in my room. He goes like "wtf is that noise? what terrible vocals...How can you tolerate such a horrible sound? turn down that volume" and it annoys me a lot when he says those crude things, but I can understand his point. I think she's an acquired taste as I was a little like him the first time I listened to her.

I like Shiina's screams. They're pretty cool but it makes me tired sometimes.

So, has anyone heard her new album? If so, has she re-sung anything?

Not that I can tell, I think it's all the originals (except Mellow?), but I haven't heard all of the tracks before to say for sure.
