I think it's mainly because she doesn't want to sound to much like Hikaru Genji (just kidding, just kidding)
No, i think it's mainly because Utada Hikaru just flows better than Hikaru Utada

^OMG I hate Genji. I took a whole course on it last semester and I almost died.
But yeah, I dislike calling Hikki "Utada" anymore, since that's her English act name. Hikki is much nicer ![]() |

Well my guess is that when people are first introduced to Utada, the first way they see or hear is "Utada Hikaru" and so they grow accustomed to saying it that way.
If they majority said "Hikaru Utada" and that's the way people were introduced to it, then that's the way we'd be saying it and "Utada Hikaru" would sound out of place. Not to mention it's how Utada herself says and types it and that has a lot to do with it as well. For instance, I was introduced to Kumi Koda as "Kumi Koda". Later I found out the majority says "Koda Kumi" and although that sounds good to them, to me it sounds odd and my way sounds odd to the majority. It's just the way it is.

I guess it all depends on how the label market them. I notice in shows and stuff Ayu's always address Hamasaki Ayumi, Ai as Otsuka Ai, etc. It's mainly on their CD covers that it's Ai Otsuka (which sounds weird to me, TBH), Kumi Koda (even weirder), and Ayumi Hamasaki.
Maybe Utada Hikaru just flows better as a name than Hikaru Utada? ![]()
