Hikki will be releasing her American album within 6 months... I wonder who will do better (if BoA actually does it).

OT: DDD what's going on with your posts? Your post on the last page wasn't there when I saw the thread this morning...something similar is happend to Kaori. Do they have to be approved by mods or something?

and I think BoA has a chance of doing better seeing as her music is much more mainsteam friendly. Even though BoA prolly will flop I'm hoping either her or Hikki's english albums do well, it should encourage more artists to go overseas? It would be nice if both albums did well..but I don't see that happening.
I'm rooting for hikki

I hope she's been working with some linguists to improve her English, otherwise she's got no chance. It's hard enough being Asian, but Hikki at least sounds like a native speaker. If she has a funny accent, no one will listen to her seriously.

We'll just have to wait and see. The only thing that is annoying me when it comes to Hikki's USA stuff is that EXODUS had too many songs like Let me give you My Love and Workout and blah, instead of aiming at 13 year old kids and horny tards she should have just done what she does the best and try attracting more mature audience. Besides I am sure that popish songs like Prisoner of Love would do great pretty much everywhere. As for BoA she never did have her own music style, so I am a bit afraid of she'll do.

lmao, why? her english skill will never be great enough to succeed greatly. Sounds like a career suicide mission imo.

I understand where everyone is coming... Asian artists don't fair well here in the states, but so much NEGATIVITY! Let's give BoA the benefit of the doubt? She might just prove most of you wrong and become a huge hit.

Neither, they won't even have as much sales as William Hung

Yes, our posts are being moderated for a while Bad kids.

And I agree, I think they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Hikki is a native speaker of English, which is a huge factor since Americans will criticize any Asian with an accent. But BoA's got the look that could be huge in the States. I'm not sure!

Eh, it wasn't Timberlands nor Hikki's fault that her album didn't do well in the states. You should blame that on her record company and management. Srsly! Promotion on the internet/her website, one local tv station interview, a couple of lil articles in local magazines, and one-time air of her on mtv is nowhere as good of damn promotion for an album here. If you wanna make it here, you've got to pull a Rihanna. As in, sponsorship deals, put out numerous singles, be featured on/in popular magazines (ie Seventeen. Elle..etc.), lots of tv/radio promotion nationwide (ie Vh1's "Artists you ought to know" <- Best way to get popular IMO), and a record company that gives a damn about you. (That's not a Rihanna tho. ) I believe if Hikki or any other artist gets that they'll be popular here.

Yep! They have to be approved by the mods. Bad time for them tho. The mods aren't normally on here like they use to be. I think they have a couple of more weeks to be moderated and then they are free.

Wut are u talking about? Exodus wasn't preteen/teen aimed. You could tell from the lyrics that she was definitely not aiming that low. The Workout, Hotel Lobby, and Tippy Toe are her most provocative tracks that she had ever created as it talked about one night stand to being a prostitute to being effing a married man who has family. Oh yes, that's preteenish/teenish! It had a way more mature feel to it than any other album she's put out. I seriously luffed it.

Sure, the menagement is to blame as well. As there was barely any real promotion done. You see, I don't believe that mature people really think that much about one night stands and the whole "You're married and you even have a family tooooo" doesn't really get to me, and those aren't the kind of lyrics I expected her to do. Hotel Lobby was nice on the other hand.

True, true, true! I honestly have NO idea of how things work in the U.S. since I have never actually been there, so, I can't really give an opinion on this.

I wish Asian artists would stop focusing on America. It's like an inferiority complex or something - as if they're not good enough if they don't conquer America.

As much as I like BoA, I predict this to be a flop.

...TBH as much as it would make me happy to really want an Asian artist to succeed, I doubt it would go well unless you're William Hung. But best of luck.

How is sexuality not for mature people? I can't see that sort of thing appealing to children.

I didn't really say "children". Hmm, well i think that teens (at least here) find the songs about sex and cheating on someone more appealing than songs like A Song is Born which are more serious. And I am strongly against people writing songs about sex and saying they're artists, go have sex, there is no point in listening to others talking about it nor singing out loud that you've slept with someone's husband etc. Not that I mind her having sex with people, but I simply don't want to listen to such songs ^^

It's a nice slogan, but I don't see her succeeding. Call me skeptical, but legions of artists before her have failed. With a bit of luck, things could go her way, but I'll just wait and see for now.
