Yeah, I don't really see that sexiness here so I'm hoping for a better translation

I think this is one of the cases where the meaning of the lyrics really kind of loses something between languages. I've been reading Japanese fans comments about these lyrics and have yet to come across a positive view. At best people seem to think they are weird and at worst disgusting and have people questioning why Ayu would ever write such lyrics.

^Yeah, I guess there're nuances that only native (or very skilled) Japanese speakers understand. Translated it doesn't seem so shocking.
Could you quote or give more deteiled examples what her Japanese fans don't like about the lyrics? Like specific words or phrases?

I'm really interested in future interviews and liner notes concerning "Sparkle".

Oh really? That's shocking to hear, and that makes a lot of sense. I hope to hear more on this.

it's good to see ayu trying new things in her music. the compositions are definitely changing and it seems she's trying to gain a "cool" factor and changing just as the style of music the population listens to is changing but i hope she doesn't lose sight of who she is, her past, and her 'deep' lyrics. that aside, i don't see what the big fuss is about the lyrics in this song. it's not all THAT bad and i don't see it in a sexual way at all...

What do her Japanese fans think of the song itself, though?

I think some people are letting the lyrics get to them too much. I think it's okay that ayumi took a break from writing deep and meaningful lyrics for just one song, it just makes Sparkle a fun pop song, imo.

The lyrics are interesting Hope there will be a complete translation so we'll now exactly what's she's talking about lol Well, they are kind of sexy xD "If you do it only half way, then it doesn't tell me anything."

Its kind of hard to enjoy the song when you don't like the lyrics is the feeling I'm getting from most posts. For us its easy because we are not native speakers - we can just ignore the lyrics and enjoy the song but if you are a native speaker, obviously the lyrics will always jump out at you.

These lyrics aren't anywhere near sexy to a Koda Kumi level or something (sorry for using the comparison again, but it is the most obvious one) but people do think that they are quite low end for Ayu and definitely shallow. But its not only that, its also the fact that the grammar used from what I can tell and from comments I've read is that its quite bad and usually Ayu's grammar is at least ok. Part of the reason why this english translation doesn't always make sense is that because the Japanese used to begin with isn't that good.

I can give more specific examples about what some of the opinions are that I've read later if you want that, but right now I have to get to class.

^Thanks. And yes, please, if it's not too much trouble. ^^ It's interesting to know the viewpoint of her Japanese fans/Japanese native speakers.
