YUI holds a free live on the streets of Shanghai

On September 24th, singer-songwriter YUI held a free live on the streets of Shanghai. It is very unusual for a Japanese singer to perform live on the streets as the security is very tight in China.

While there was almost no advanced notices for the live, many young people stopped to listen to YUI sing a total of 4 songs as she strummed her guitar.

Following her street live, YUI then sang on a special stage at Hisamitsu Department Store in Jing’an Temple, where over 1,500 fans gathered to watch her perform. A female office worker from Shanghai commented, “I like YUI’s style.”

On the 25th, YUI will perform at ‘Shanghai Japan Week‘ at Shanghai International Studies University to introduce Japan’s music and culture.

YUI tops Oricon weekly chart with “Green a.live”

Singer-songwriter YUI released her 20th single, “Green a.live“, on October 5th, and topped the Oricon Weekly Single Ranking by selling a total of 56,000 copies in its first week! This is her first time topping the single charts since “to Mother“, which was released in June of last year.

“Green a.live” is YUI’s first song that she wrote after the Tohoku Earthquake. Since the disasters, the singer has held acoustic lives at schools in stricken areas, and has been doing charity work through her lives. The title “Green a.live” means, “to live inside the earth“.

YUI expressed her happiness by saying, “I have so much gratitude for everyone who has always supported me. In this song, I was able to include the message I want to deliver, and my thoughts about how we shouldn’t forget our beginning. I want to move forward with everyone while enjoying everyday.”
