^the music of alan is like the music of Hitomi Shimatani and Mika Nakashima, they do a lot of ballads, but sometimes they released something upbeat.
alan released a lot of ballads for historical movies or series, and she has some upbeat songs like Over the clouds, or Swear, but her best sales are with the ballads, and maybe for that reason she isn't releasing more upbeat songs, but she could try release something different in the future

Thanks for the info about her popularity! Glad to know she's appreciated in her home country X)

I am not saying that alan sells worst that other cause I nothing new that she is selling in a medium level because of its genre
I am just saying that she (or cd in japan at all ) did sell low because of an earthquake

well she didn't get the chance to promote some more~ she had like 3 TV performances that had to be rescheduled due to the earthquake

she was supposed to have a mini live the day after the earthquake, so even though she still wouldn't get #1, but at least she could have sold more

I've been devouring her music the past several weeks and catching up with singles I ignored like Kaze ni mukau hana. It's so good it hurts.

Basically anything that wasn't an A side and the more recent singles. I love how her album tracks are just as good and sometimes better than her singles. Nobody knows but me has the most plays so far~

I love it when her b-sides are just as good/even better than the a-sides

Since Swear, the b-sides are part of my favourites, they are in the same level as a-sides.
(Beauty, Koko ni Iru & Namonaki Tane are so AMAZING, seriously they could be an amazing single without the a-side)

I just watched the Voice of EARTH DVD again, and can't stop thinking how much her music has changed. Am I the only one? Of course she is still producing high quality music, and it isn't mainstream, but somehow the songs of her first album sounded very different to the ones on "my life" and what came after that.

^ gotta say, her songs have taken a turn to sound more mainstream, while still maintaining that unique "alan" sound

I think Kaze and Kanashimi plus Echoes and eternal love all sound like the 'alan style'. I think her music has stayed consistent. Consistently awesome!

^i think the same, her "mainstream singles" are Swear and Diamond / Over the clouds, and that's all, she keep with the ballads and sometimes she does something different and upbeat like Lost Child, Venus Flower or Call My Name.

I kind of like ballads a bit more. So it seems that alan's more into ballads than, let's say, Ayu?

I think people are sort of missing that more Oriental and Tibetan feel. ECHOES has recaptured that, and I'm really happy with it. I do sense that her melodies are becoming more mainstream but the arrangement and stuff are still almost the same
