There was a picture of Ayu and her husband in public without any fans in sight in Japanese tabloids with text like "nobody cares about Ayumi Hamasaki", which is partly true, speaking of general public, so she actually can go freely with some disguise.

Well that's pretty paradoxal because if that tabloid feels the need to make an article about her it means they still do care about her (even if it's in a mean way) lol
I'd say to these mean people "Ayu doesn't care anymore she's too busy spending her ¥¥¥ in expensive stuff you mean journalists will never be able to afford"

Good for her if she can go wherever she wants without being bothered.

A friend of mine actually went to Sendai for last year's TA Tour and said she was, along with other fans, next to Ayu on the station. According to her nobody stalked her, so I think it is part of Japanese culture too, I might be wrong though.

I wonder if those street style pictures she posts are really live/fresh or she just took a bunch of photos and uploads day by day. I don't know... just started questioning this.

I guess she can walk freely for a while now. She usually tooks the subway and shinkansen to go to other cities and to her venues. But I'm surprised that no one have a picture with her in the streets of Tokyo. Is it because people don't care/recognize about her or because Japanese are too polite and care about private life that they don't feel the need to approach a celebrity?

I think it's a combination of things. Her popularity is definitely lower, and people aren't looking for her per se. Some people may be nice enough to ignore her if they notice her. But she's always wearing sunglasses and hats and such, and it would be quite easy to miss her in the crowd. There are TONS of people walking around Tokyo, you just start blocking it out a bit, honestly.

And she's probably not just walking around care-free. I'm sure she's going from point A to point B, from a car to a store, for example. Then snapping a quick picture in between. And likely very early morning or less traveled hours.

It's probably very different having her walking around without much fanfare and her being announced walking around, and the 2nd would probably cause some level of commotion, even if not a big one. Let's not forget abou the 2009 scandal

I thought that was referring to the 109 / photo book scandal. When she released one of her vivi collaborations or something, she made an unscheduled appearance at Shibuya 109 to promote it. This caused a huge commotion, impacted traffic, etc.

It ended up under investigation or in court or something, because she wasn't permitted for an event with proper police and traffic control.

Love her look in that last pic. Street wear Ayu is definitely my favourite. I don't care that she's wearing Kanye West's clothing. It works and it makes her happy. I don't like Rihanna buy I love the platform shoes she just put out.

Honestly, I'm not surprised no one hassles her on the streets these days. If she's just walking around, not announcing herself I think she'd blend into the crowd. Especially in a big city. I live in the same city as one of my favourite actresses and if she walked by me I'd never know. You just block it out.

I would have to second this.
Some people bring up good points but if Ayu was to do rap/hip hop it would most likely be the mainstream type. I also think that avex wouldn't approve of such a drastic and risky change. At the end of the day Ayu works for avex, not the other way around.
I like Nothing From Nothing too but I wouldn't be in favor of a revival.
But it would be interesting to say the least.

That aura of Hip-hop just doesn't mesh well with Ayu's persona and what I perceive to be her values at all. It's very "I'm better than you" and Ayu's not like that. She's more of a "I'm right there with you" type of girl.
