I might as well say this. I still don't think the title is appropriate. There's too many ballads for it to be considered Rock 'n' Roll, and there aren't enough crazy songs like Sexy Little Things to be considered Circus. I feel like ayu feels like she's obliged to put ballads on an album of hers. A "Rock 'n' Roll" album and we get loaded with ballads. You were..., BALLAD, montage, last links, meaning of love, Sunset ~LOVE is ALL~, and I think the only songs that qualify for Circus are Sexy Little Things, Lady Dynamite, and Don't Look Back (not really, but it has that "unusual" feel to it). Just saying, the title of the album doesn't really tell the story of the album. I feel like it's wrongly named.

I'd like to say if it's not already pointed out, Ayumi revealed the meaning of Microphone in the making of video.

She asks someone "Do you know why its called Microphone?"
Someone: "I wondered what kind of lyrics would come, and I saw it..."
Ayu: "And while thinking that, you thought it would be like a song about Love?"
Someone: "Yes, yes of course." (Like, isn't it that way?)
Ayu: "You're wrong. The 'You' is music. It's not a person."

There is nothing hard to understand, I think.
She is saying "the You in microphone is not about a person, it's about music."

The "you" as in when she sings "anata (dakara)". And when people here thinks she's referring to a person, it's music that is the "person" (you).
