It will also depend if they still popular and other things too. Kuu's last album Dejavu was just released in a bad time, and the album is good, but not as strong and relevant as her others. I really hope Love songs keeps on a charting a little bit longer! |

Yeah, just before the earthquake and all that.

Albums are more like, fans + other people buying, who are bigger than the number of fans buying, (the number of fans stays around the same no matter the situation. It obviously changes but not overnight). These casual listeners make the difference at the end of the day, and in the past few years more people bought kuu's albums than ayu's. |

The earthquake and tsunami were definitely a bad time but it didn't seem like it really affected cd sales in general.
look at how exile's album sold after the disaster and how for example, sdn48 and kara's singles do this week, so it's not really a factor. |

The first week sales of Dejavu pretty much showed it would sell considerably less than all her previous albums. Considering what Tal said is true I'd say the natural disasters are hardly to blame Ku's popularity had yet another downfall.

I bet Universe would sell less than RnRC if it wasn't paired with the best... and even so, the sales weren't that high...

Exile's album would definitely have sold more without the earthquake, though. Sales drop each year and all that, plus their singles weren't as MASSIVELY succesful as in 2009, but you don't go from nearly selling 1,390,000 to around 700,000 just because of falling record sales in general. Motto Tsuyoku, VICTORY and I Wish For You especially were big enough hits to ensure a million copies.

If the disaster would have more than small effect on cd sales (even though it didn't seem like it had any effect at all according to the general sales), then ayu's album should have stopped from charting since then

I realize that, of course, their popularity could have become less. That's completely viable. The only problem is that this doesn't or barely show in their single sales, and it'd be weird if somehow their popularity dropped in between the single and the album. If all of their singles would've done less I could've expected a sudden drop. This just seems so random... At least the Mr. Children album had a very good reason for not selling a million, what with the album being announced basically a few days in advance and there not being any single or promotion for it. But then that's Mr. Children and they can do NO wrong XD |
