Popular Idol group AKB48's 18th Single "Beginner" (10/27 Release) had a total first week sales of 827,000 copies and became the top single of the Weekly Ranking of this week (11/8). Starting from "RIVER" released on October last year, this makes the 5th consecutive 1# Single for AKB48.

with new marketing strategies like tickets for big-scale handshaking events among other bonuses, it beat SPEED's "ALL MY TRUE LOVE" (released on 1998/10) which sold 601k approx. 12 years ago. giving "Begginer" the highest first week ever for female groups.

as for Female artists (including solo artists), Utada Hikaru's "Addicted To You" (1999/11 release) with 1068k, Amuro Namie's "CAN YOU CELEBRATE?" (1997/2 Release) with 828k, and now "Beginner" (827k) in third place also make the top 3 best first week sales in the overall female category.

to line up with top-class releases from the second-half of the 90s (considered as the golden-age of the Music Industry) and also in what comes to this century surpassing Utada's "Can you Keep A Secret?" (2001/2 Release, 784k) it became the highest for this century.

furthermore, since the April release "Ponytail to Shushu" (first week sales of 513k) this makes 3 AKB48 releases with over 500k of opening sales, breaking the 2-streak record Utada, Ayumi Hamasaki, and previously AKB48 held together.

until last week (11/1) comparing the total yearly income of this year with the same period as it was last year there was a 105.6% increase, showing signs of a possible market revival for singles. now with big success of this release, the possibilities look certain. its said that this means the Single Market is coming back to the prosperity.

Almost makes me feel bad for Momusu, but even LOVE Machine and Koi no Dance Site weren't as good as Beginner if you ask me. Wonder if I'll still feel this way after Beginner wears off on me.

Anyone else wonder if they're going to reissue the Beginner single with the original PV to boost sales even more? If they do I'll be pissed because I already bought it, but at least then we'd have the vid in HQ and not filmed off someone's phone.

I would have never thought that they could be as successful as the golden era of Morning Musume, I'm so impressed, but I kinda feel bad that my favorite members Oshima Mai and Nakanishi Rina are no longer part of the group and therefore can't enjoy AKB's actual success

though it made me happy to know that Graduated Members were invited to perform in this year concerts.

Well at least Maimai is trying with going solo. Then Rina after the AV stuff seems to have taken her check and ran out of the spotlight to go do whatever it was she wanted to do with it.

Speaking of graduated members I miss Erepyon. Her contracts ending soon and so her blog will close and she's apparently going to study in the UK.

Preview of the regular senbatsu's B-side on the upcoming single. The title is "Yoyaku shita Christmas" and it'll be the Xmas Jingle for 7/11:

Sounds nice but I'm not the biggest fan of ballads so... hopefully this means that the main song will be upbeat.

^I'm betting they put it on the next album. The single has already sold so much and the million mark is already in plain sight... they'd want to use the PV to boost the sales of something new.

^^I'm not entirely sure about this single either. Of course, I hope the main song is good but tbh (no disrespect to Jakenpyon senbatsu) I'm just waiting for the team songs before I decide whether to buy or not. lol I think Team K may be my favorite so I'll get their version but I want to hear the songs first and decide from there (because buying all three is out of the question XD).

^ That would actually be a really good idea. I'd definitely buy the album if they did that (even though I have 2/3 of the singles since Kamikyokutachi).

But wait. So version A, K, and B are all going to have a different MAIN song or is it the same song just performed by each of the teams?

The main song will be the same and it'll be performed by the Jakenpyon tournament senbatsu. The 1st B-side, the 7/11 X-mas song posted above will also be on each version. The 2nd B-side on each version will feature a brand new song performed by each of the teams and get their own PV. The Theater version will also have a new song which will probably be performed by TG/UG but it's not confirmed who's singing it. So we're getting a total of 6 new songs with this single.

Hm, thought the Theater ver. song would be TG/UG... looks like they've been left out of this single. Probably because they'll get featured in the Team songs anyway. None of the titles are surprising honestly:

Team A song sounds like a medium or upbeat ballad

Team B song sounds like it'll be "cute, kawaii desu!!!" track

Team K sounds like it'll be the "cool" dance heavy track

Jankenpyon Senbatsu sounds like the fun, energetic track

It's bascially what I expected. XD
