I pretty much feel the same. Some people have labeled me as a "Kumi hater" but I just don't like the fact that Kumi had to trade quality for quantity or become avex's quick cash cow.

I don't wanna rain on anyone's parade but this usually just leads to short term popularity explosion. This is no new phenomena. Several record labels just create this image to fit into the current "it" girl. Unfortunately, similarly to fashion the tastes just change with time. In late 2005-06 Koda was the "it" girl but now Leah and ERIKA are filling that slot.

The problem is that Koda's career is becoming less about her music and more about her image. I pretty much enjoyed everything from her Secret era, but I can't say the same ever since she got popular. The focus seems usually to be whether she'll be cute or sexy.

Fame does terrible things to people. :[ And I agree about secret being her best era.

I think avex is just having a problem choosing when the best release date is. The earliest release date I think would probably be mid-late January?

imo 2007 quality-wise is her worst, 'cause the only song that did it hugely to me was BUT, other then it the songs are just boring or nice and it never been like that for me with kumi...
My most fav albums of her are grow into one, BEST ~ss~ and secret. I think that those 3 are her highest quality albums.

On 2004~2006 (until the end of 12 singles project) I was like WOW everytime she released a new single and was always happy with her songs!
Now I barely listen to her 2007 stuff, I mainly listen to BUT, LAST ANGEL feat. tohoshinki and ai no uta (rarely but it's a nice song). Except for those I listen to nothing she released this year... and I'm sad about it 'cause I love her.

I hope AVEX isn't tryin' to pull off another "4 weeks at #1" thing b/c I hate to say it but it's not going to happen.

I won't call B ~ss~ some of her best stuff because it's a "best" album which you should know what it means. AVEX was very cleaver when they thought of the 12 weeks release. Some of those release where really good but AVEX was also was greedy. I mean, instead of during a Best for a second time in a row, they should have released a studio album. She perhaps wouldn't have been bashed for during something like especially since she hadn't been popular that long. Also, I don't know if I'm being...jeez, can't find the word...but, anyway, there seems to be uncertainly as to how Kumiko actually became popular.

Let me tell you what I've read that contributed to her success:

1. When she released real Emotion/1000 no Kotoba, she became popular.
2. Secret was what made her popular.
3. Ero-kawaii style made her popular and sell a lot.
4. With the release of Butterfly, she became popular. (I don't know what people like about this song!!)
5. The 12 weeks of christmas made her become popular
6. The release of the Best albums contributed to her being popular and selling or whatever!
7. She has big boobies that gave her popularity.
8. The Cutie Honey release gave her popularity.
9. The release of the BEST dvds, she was popular and successful
10. By outselling Ayumi and Hikki, she was popular!

Okay, after reading all of those, I still don't know what the hell made her popular! Someone please give me and all of the other wonders an explanation...PLEASE!

Sadly, all the things you listed are kinda true.

to me her best album was secret and the songs released afterwards that was released in ft and the last songs I liked from her was in ss (but only you, ddd, love goes like, and candy)

The problem I have with her is not only do I not like her songs after ss up to now, but also her style. I feel like she lost her unqiueness that she had before she became really popular. Nowadays she looks too much like ayu in my opinion and there were times I thought that was ayu but it was her. I'm not sure if it was her decision or avex/ her sylist to have her wear or have her hair the way it is...sometimes its just too close and I really don't like that. Looking back to her style during secret/ft and even ss, you can tell that is koda kumi...coz u don't really see other ppl wearing or have her hair look like hers...and that's what seperates her from other ppl and I think that was part of what ppl liked about her too...but now there's nothing special...and also now there's erika and leah...even though their singing abilities will never reach koda's, their styles and images are refreshing just like koda's was. I really think koda should change her image soon...and do something different.

Also she doesn't dance much anymore...atleast compared to before. Her performances used to be enjoyable and entertaining...I still remember the mtv candy performance...that was wow! now its just ballads and movements....which honestly anybody can do.

Well they had to get back the money somehow (and it wasn't going be through the 50,000 limited copies). I personally liked the idea of ~second session~ since I wouldn't have to try to get the limited singles.

Koda, Mizumori win Best Hit Kayousai again

The 2007 Best Hit Kayousai was held in Osaka on Tuesday. Kumi Koda's "Ai no Uta" earned her the Grand Prix in the pop category, while Kaori Mizumori took the enka category with "Hitori Satsumaji." This is the second consecutive win for both Koda and Mizumori.

The Best New Artist award went to R&B group RSP for "Lifetime Respect -Onna Hen-." Masafumi Akikawa's "Sen no Kaze ni Natte" won a special award commemorating the competition's 40th iteration.

I honestly think Ai no Uta is one of the best songs she released this year.
