I guess it's a style.
Let's call it emotionless impersonal stick-puppet.

^ I wonder how many LIVEs of Namie u've actually watched to the full show and called her emotionless?
If everyone thought like u, Namie would have been disappeared in shame.

I don't think there's anything impersonal about how Namie puts on a show. She's obviously engaged with the act of performing, and just because she doesn't talk to the crowd doesn't mean she doesn't care. DIR EN GREY's overseas performances NEVER have any MCs. You're lucky to get Kyo to say the city's name at the end of the show, and basically the only time they'll interact with us are at the very end with wordless gestures -- waves, raised fists, nods, bows, etc. For them it's all about connecting through the songs. I imagine for Namie it's the same thing. And it's effective, clearly, since she's such a popular live act.
If we're talking about growing and evolving as a performer, I guess I'd have to agree that yeah, not much is different at all. I don't see this as a bad thing with her, though. We get enough personality and sweetness from Kuu lol. Let Namie be the mobile, voiced work of art prancing around for our amusement lol. I like that mystique about her.

I like namie for her music
Well, maybe her composers more, but more of name's ability to sing songs. The first half of past < future just slays me every time. First timer is just eargasm. |

I've watched all of Namie's tours since 2003(?) completely and parts of her concerts before that. And me calling her emotionless and impersonal has nothing to do with not having MCs, I don't even like MCs, I'd gladly do without ANY talking in concerts since it usually just distracts from the music.

This was filmed on March 29, 1999 – Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Awards III, just 12 days after her mother was brutally murdered by her brother-in-law. Can't u believe it, how could she still "smile" to ppl around like that? Surely it hurted her deepest from the inside. Talking about her as a live performer, i would give her my all respect.

That's called "acting" and has little to do with performing. But I do respect her for being able to do that - I know I wouldn't be able to.
I still think she's one of the most mediocre performers in the business and has close to no stage presence. Like Lady Gaga or Christina Aguilera.

Namie's lives are ok to me. Compared to her peers I think she ranks quite high, I think Kumi and Miliyah put on better shows than her. Namie is miles ahead of Ayu though (would be a different story in 2006)

She's a good performer imo, she's a great dancer and decent enough singer.

All these things are a matter of taste IMO If one is fan of Namie He will say that she is a better performer same with every other artists ...
Namie is a dance performer unlike Ayu who is a theatral performer ! If you ask me I enjoy much more Ayu in Live than namie ! Not because she show more emotions but because all the thing is more enjoyable ! It's not just dance dance and dance ... she tell a story all things take sens ! Even if I like more songs of Namie I I prefer the lives of Kumi ! Last edited by mizuki-7; 13th December 2012 at 09:50 PM. |

Got to agree with some people on here, I find Namie quite emotion-less and boring to watch on her concerts. She a good singer and a brilliant dancer, but I just can't keep paying attention when she keeps the same blank face throughout.
I know that some fans like her that and find her mysterious, but its not for me ^^

I feel like Ayu and Namie are opposite extremes. My mom tells me she gets annoyed with how theatrical/dramatic/emotional Ayu is on stage (and she quite loves Namie's confident and focused demeanor)
They're just different kinds of performer. Ayu's concerts are more like a show where you get overwhelmed by everything going on, but for Namie's concerts, you focus on her and her dancing.

She's my favorite performer, every time I watch her lives I feel like dancing with her.
I love it when she gets short of breath and then she gets back up, because you know she's doing her best. And when she smiles in her concerts, she makes me melt. I have no complains at all. |

Just like some people like to watch movies that makes them cry and emotionally connected. While some loves watching action films or movies with fight choreography.

lol I just love how when someone criticizes something Namie does, all of these posters that never post in her thread suddenly come out of the woodwork to voice their opinions.
Anyway, I personally love Namie as a live performer much for the same reasons that JackieRos does. I don't think it's that Namie is emotionless, I just think (and KNOW) that she is extremely shy, so for her to get up and perform 25-30 songs a night is huge for her. She wants to connect with her fans and show them a good time which is why she goes out and does all these crazy-lengthed-tours but I feel that she just doesn't want to over-expose herself on the stage and is shy and reserved in that way. Which is just fine for me. I love that she still sings live in every performance and rarely bothers to edit the strain in her voice out in DVDs of her lives. Which is why I'll be purchasing the 20th anniversary DVD when it comes out.

She clearly has different personality comparing to Ayu or Kuu, who are both Extraverts. For that reason her concert mode is also in a very different way. I have the same point of view of pommy48's mom. I quite don't like the theatrical/dramatic/emotional Ayu on stage, because they are all coming from the "acting" section. While I love Namie because she has a solid color.

I really like Namie's reserved performing style, it works for her music. Then when you get those moments of genuine emotion, they're extra powerful because you know she's really feeling it.
I just respect her for still being able to do what she does after all the **** that happened to her. The fact that she clawed her way back to the top shows she does care. That's no easy feat. While Ayu and Kuu are like your two girlfriends who you gossip with, Namie's like... your cool big sister or something haha |
