Well, I'm hoping she steps up the BPM from Kiss My Lips. KML and OO were really mid-tempo records. I don't want another Hurricane Venus, where every damn song is either a really slow ballad or a super explosive EDM track, but something with the diversity of WHO'S BACK? would be nice. I'd just like to hear BoA do another a staple dance track, like HV or Girls On Top were.

I like the variety of WHO'S BACK? but I don't like how it is organized. That album is full os good songs, but as a whole, it's a mess. I wouldn't mind another track similar to Message, though

I was really hoping for a Japan comeback.

But it figures. She's pretty much done with Jpop. With luck later in the year she'll release a couple of Japanese versions of her Korean tracks. Like she did with Only One, Kiss my Lips and so on.

I'm thirsty for a 100% original Jpop album from her. Not remakes.

Honestly, maybe I'm spoiled or something. But BoA is the type of artist that makes it hard for me to follow her and root for her.

She doesn't interact with the fans. She posts on social media but doesn't hint at her future activities. Most of her posts are boring and tell us nothing. Sometimes she doesn't seem that involved with her career.

Most of the time her album releases or tour dates are announced by her labels out of the blue. As fans we have no chance to anticipate.

I'm used to following artists that, in some way or another, post and announce what they're doing. It makes us feel engaged and part of the journey.

I like and support BoA for her talent as a singer but this side of her disappoints me.

For me, the disappointment was that she seemed to resume regular activities leading up to WHO'S BACK? and now she's had two singles in two years. Why release SIX new singles and a studio album from 2013-2014 and then just drop off the face of the earth? What a letdown for me as a fan.

In almost two and a half years, we've had FLY and Lookbook. She couldn't even taper her release schedule. Just six singles and a new album, and then POOF! BoA gone.

Yes I was disappointed about that too.

I really liked "Lookbook". At least it sounded fresher than everything she'd been releasing in Japan in the past several years.

But she didn't even promote "Lookbook" as it should. It should have gotten a Dance version MV. And at the time I wanted to know who the guy in her MV was and had a hard time finding out. She could have at least mentioned him on social media.

But no. It's like she made a quick visit to Japan just to record the song and MV and then byeeeeee. See you in a few years.

I'd say you're spoiled. You can't expect these things from her, when she's not making music. When she is, she's pretty transparent.

Ever since her US debut, her relationship with avex is very strained. In every single interview that she gives in Japan, she shades avex. From the things she say, the label doesn't give her enough support. All her singles and albums after BEST&USA were released because of contractual obligations, not because she wanted, imo.

In Korea she has a lot more freedom about how to handle her music, so it's very understandable that she focus her activities there. Concluding the point I started while replying to dreamalley, when she's making music, she genereally post pictures or comment about it on variety shows. Now she'll be back with a new mini album, but I wouldn't wait a japanese album any time soon.

^ It makes sense. In Korea, she's pretty much the prototype for every modern-day girl singer -- from her dancing, to her look, to her style. She's quite well-respected there as a "legend" of sorts, from what I can tell.

In Japan, I loved her early in her career. Then I have loved bits and pieces through the years, but she's largely lost me because the music is a little too generic for my personal taste. She has a great voice, but the songs just don't do it for me. I think in Japan, she really lost her footing during the K-Pop invasion because she was already established, wasn't part of a girl group, and is in this weird in-between where she's clearly not Japanese...but she's also considered a Japanese artist (as opposed to just a Korean import). She's neither part of the "in group" nor is she foreign enough to be "exotic."

For me I haven't been following BoA to closely since around 2010. After Identity came out I feel like BoA got left behind by the Kpop boom and the increasing idol trend in Jpop. I never know what she is up to anymore. Plus she keeps jumping from Jpop to Kpop which makes things hard to keep track of sometimes.
I think BoA was making great Jpop in the 2000s but I think in the 2010s she should stick with Kpop. I think she would be able to make music more true to herself in Korea.

^Well, she's been doing that literally since her debut in Japan. She only started to release 100% original songs for the japanese market like, in her fourth or fifth album in Japan.

I don't really mind the rerelease in a different language, she doesn't do it a lot anymore.

Well, to be fair, whether it was her or avex, THE FACE was the start of a lot of lazy music from BoA. She really brought it back with songs like MASAYUME CHASING, but I remember looking at the covers for WOO WEEKEND and thinking, Jesus, BoA, you really don't care for this song at all, do you?

To be honest, I think when the K-Pop invasion started, avex should have just released her and let SM take control of her activities in Japan. It's likely BoA would have easily shifted into an icon of the K-Pop movement because she's one of core reasons K-Pop became known by foreigners.

Edit: And Hurricane Venus. No matter what you say, HV was K-Pop through and through in some of the absolute best ways. And it's a shame they didn't have her re-record that album in Japanese and push it out after the massive failure of IDENTITY.

I miss her, she hasn't released a new Japanese album in 2 years, even though she released a Kpop album last year... I've always preferred her Japanese music.

I got back into my BoA fandom with the release of Who's Back so I really hope she does release another JPop (mostly original but I will be happy with a few covers) someday. Ideally this year! I am also looking forward to her next KPop release too!

Hurricane Venus is an album I really need to add to my BoA collection!

really? Other than the singles I prefer every album from MI20 and after to the works prior.

edit: And HV got so annoying over the time, I only ever listen to implode. And I still think IDENTITY was a got starting point for more self-contral - a skill that has to develop.
