Matsuda Seiko has announced that she will be releasing her new single, “Namida no Shizuku“, on May 2nd!

The title track will be used as the image song for the upcoming film, ‘Waga Haha no Ki‘, which will open in theaters nationwide on April 28th. This movie is based on Inoue Yasushi’s novel, ‘Waga Haha no Ki ~Hana no Shita. Tsuki no Hikari. Yuki no Omote‘, and stars Yakusho Koji, Kiki Kirin, Miyazaki Aoi, Minami Kaho, Kimura Midoriko, Mimura, Kikuchi Akiko, Miura Takahiro, Mano Erina, and Mikuni Rentaro.

“Namida no Shizuku” is written, composed, and produced by Matsuda herself. Regarding the song, she commented, “After watching the movie, I was moved by its excellence that I was overwhelmed with emotion and I couldn’t get out of my chair for some time. 46th studio album on its way. Title is Very Very. A bit of an odd title if you ask me, but I am pumped for new album. The release date is June 6th.

There was also a new Fujifilm Astalift CM ten days ago. Here is the promo picture:

I've got alot of Seiko's albums and Tenshi No Winku is overplayed on my iPod (its such a classic!) but could someone list her staple songs? Like the songs she is guaranteed to sing on her tour? Thanks!

Tenshi no Wink is a classic indeed. Well deserved tenth position on the yearly Oricon charts for 1985. Seiko was quite busy promoting and performing the song back then too. For example, appeared for eight consecutive weeks on TBS program "The Best Ten"!

Staple songs? Well, she usually does a hit medley section. Aoi Sangoshou, Natsu no Tobira, Kaze wa Aki Iro, Rock'n Rouge, Nagisa no Balcony, Cherry Blossom etc. It's also common for her to sing Anata ni Aitakute, Akai Sweet Pea during ballad section and 20th Party during the encore/closing.

New single is out! I find the title song a bit disappointing imo, but the lovely studio version of Ue wo Muite Arukou makes up for it. It features Sayaka as well, same as Kouhaku Uta Gassen.

Very Very

Universal Music Japan revealed some information about the upcoming album.
I am a bit late to post this, as it was already announced last week. Here is my free translation:

Including new single Namida no Shizuku and hit single Tokubetsu na Koibito (lyrics, music / producer: Mariya Takeuchi). A total of 10 tracks.

Format: CD + photobook
Release date: 2012.06.06
Catalog #: UMCK-1420 / UMCK-9490
Number of discs: 1
Distributor: Universal Music Japan

Tracklist

01 Namida no Shizuku (涙のしずく)
02 Someday
03 Very Very!
04 Futari no Bon Voyage (ふたりのボン・ボヤージュ)
05 The fantastic world
06 Your Magic
07 You are everything ~Anata ga Subete~ (~あなたがすべて~)
08 Thank you for these memories
09 Tokubetsu na Koibito (特別な恋人)
10 Anata to Ikiru Koto (あなたと生きること)

---

I hope that Namida no Shizuku being the opening track doesn't reflect the music style of the whole album.

By the way, Seiko still tops the Oya Bunko ranking with 4,814 articles.

I have known that she has been #1 but a bit surprised by the margin. Thought someone else would've passed her by now.
It can be argued whether it is a good thing or not to be #1 on these kind of ranking. You know, scandals etc...

But Seiko doesn't have the scandal image stuck on her anymore. Time has changed.

Other female (ex)singers on the list are:

#7 Momoe Miura (married name, Momoe Yamaguchi. Retired 1980)
#17 Akina Nakamori
#24 Hibari Misora (passed away 1989)

Very Very album first day ranking position is at #7. A decent start, already beat Cherish when it comes to a higher daily postion.

Tomorrow Seiko will guest on Waratte Iitomo telephone shocking segment. She was there last year as well around album release. On this program, the current guest always gives the next one a call. Today, Maeda Atsuko of AKB48 (graduated) was on the phone with Seiko.

@TeamAyu2004: You should check into her massive best album discography if you haven't already.

Waratte Iitomo! 2012.06.07

Seiko had a chat with Tamori on Waratte Iitomo today.

They had in advance asked 500 people what their favorite Seiko song is. These were the best five of that survey:
  1. Akai Sweet Pea
  2. Anata ni Aitakute
  3. Aoi Sangoshou
  4. SWEET MEMORIES
  5. Natsu no Tobira

She commented that she agrees with the list for the most part. Especially songs Akai Sweet Pea, SWEET MEMORIES and Anata ni Aitakute.
But she personally would have included Rock'n Rouge as well!

One of other topics was to list unforgettable moments of her career.
  • The anniversary celebration. 30 years since her debut as a singer.
  • Was able to hold a concert at the Budokan for the first time (now a total of 89 times* since 1982).
  • First concert performance. Took place on September 30th, 1980 at the Nippon Seinenkan in Tokyo.

*That Budokan statistic is wrong though. It should be 96 times according to Wikipedia and several other sources. Unless there are some duplicates somewhere along the way. It has been mentioned before, but no other Japanese female person has come close to that number.

Last but not least. In the guessing game segment where it's possible to win a Tamori strap as prize (she won this last time around). The rule is to ask a yes/no question and then predict how many of the 100 people in the audience presses the answering button. In the past it used to be, try to ask a question where only ONE person is able to answer yes to.

She sends Sayaka a mail at least once everyday. She wanted to know how many do the same, the question being "parent and child who mail each other everyday?".

Seiko's prediction: 23/100
Result: 42/100

Yes, that's the way to go when trying out new artists. I suggest you give Diamond Bible or Seiko Suite a try. They are box sets with multiple CDs.

That's awesome man. Welcome to the club! I am personally a big fan of older music, especially 80's stuff. There is something special and unique about it.

Very Very day 2 rank is #10. A top ten weekly position is doable for sure, unless it totally chokes this weekend.
By the way, this alternative album cover is much much better:

Should have been the main artwork, right? Everyone! How is the new album?
