I thought there would be hope because of Namie's bump, but even she's doing moderately well now. Kumi seems to be on the same path as Ayu. D: Sales are going down more and more each year. Luckily their tours are still selling like hotcakes ;D

I mean, I guess its only in my mind, but I assumed
(1) Young girls and teenage girls and young women buy music from female singers because they want to be like them and they do serve as role models and give them "girl power" or whatever,
(2) A lot of men and boys are attracted to these singers since they tend to be beautiful/sexy/cute so they too support cause they're horndogs,
(3) The old Japanese aunties want to be and act young so they too support these singers,
(4) They're just overall better anyways!

Because of these things I figure women should be dominating the music industry...

sorry guys but to me , I don't think you should compare 3 SPLASH's sales against Alive / Physical thing

3 SPLASH's a triple A-side while for Alive / Physical thing , it's only a double A-side

so it's quite natural I suppose for Alive / Physical thing to sell worst than 3 SPLASH but still , the so far sales that Alive / Physical thing is getting , it's bad .___.

this is true, but more teenage girls and (older) women seem to be more infatuated with boy bands in japan more than anything else.

It's also only natural, we assume, for a triple a-side single to sell more than a single a-side, but It's all love did surpass 3 SPLASH, so I don't think it matters whether its a single/double/triple a-side release.

I'm sorry, I'm lazy and don't want to flip through the mountain of pages of this thread, how is Alive/Physical thing selling compared to 3 SPLASH? What are the numbers?

Yes but these boybands, generally, don't have the support from young males and men that female singers do. I'm sure a typical male would rather support Koda Kumi than Arashi.

On the other hand, maybe the amount of females that prefer boybands is larger than the amount of females + males that like female singers ( ).

LOL I'm also lazy too -_- but I was told that the 1st 2 days sales of Alive / Physical thing = the 1st day sales of 3 SPLASH or something like that

if you take into account that a lot of fan girls buy multiple copies of singles and such..

however, if you look at it from a different angle.. it looks like the boybands have dominated sales / made the most money, but you have to remember that they have to split their profits multiple ways. whereas kuu and ayu don't have to split their profits since they are solo singers.

kaori posted that article that showed the boy bands made the most money in japan for 2009 so far, but after dividing up their profits to each member (like 5 for tohoshinki, 5 for arashi), ayu was number one and kuu was second.

I thought Kumi had more female fans than males... I thought they typically liked women like Kou... Shiraba.. I can't remember her name, but "plain women" as my friend in Kyoto put it. Girls usually go for the Divas.

LOL. This. The worst has to be EXILE... how many members do they have? Splitting 1 million among 5 people, and having 650k for yourself makes yourself have close to 3 times the $$$ of the 1 person in the 5 people group.

I think they're not known as EXILE anymore but rather J Soul Brothers ?

they have 13 members in the group if I'm not wrong @_@

I thought Hey ! Say ! JUMP's rooster of 10 members was bad but .__.

When I first saw it I thought I read 65,920 or something and I was like "Daaaaaaaang!!". I misread.

I don't think it matters if they have to split the money into so many parts since that's not what the fans are thinking; they are simply preferring the music. I'm not talking about how much money they make, but the popularity they have.

i understand what you meant, that's why i said to look at it at a different angle. sales don't necessarily equal popularity either, though. excluding the stans who buy everything just to support their idols, usually people buy music based on whether or not they like the sound and not the artist. kind of like how i don't really care for boa but i bought her debut album because i liked the music.

however being unpopular in the public's eye really can hurt your sales, regardless of how catchy your music is.

Hmm i don't think we have a Live Audio Rip Thread for Kuu!
Damn the only Audio Rips from her DVD's i don't have:
-BEST ~second session~ Release Party
-Let's Party Vol. 1
Hope someone can upload them one day!
I have Kingdom Tour 2008 and Dirty Ballroom audio, also Ima Sugu Hoshii from Best second session Tour.
And a fan made compilation from live collaborations.
Should I upload the compilation?
