I don't think she would be in New York, considering that they got hit by that snow storm and it's way too cold. For all we know, she could be in Mexico! :O

Well you need some form of official ID as a foreigner, so it's possible that she still traveled domestically and her passport is the best option.

On another note, it's possible she didn't update us -exactly- when she left and arrived.
