Shige to appear in historical drama, "Kenjusho ~Mitsukuni Kou to Ore~"

It was announced on Sep 9th that Shige will be appearing in NHK BS Premium drama “Kenjusho ~Mitsukuni Kou to Ore~”. Set in the Edo period, the drama will run for 8 episodes starting on Nov 5th (Fri) at 8pm JST.

Yamamoto Koji stars as Tokunaga Mitsukuni in this drama based on Ubukata Tow’s novel “Kenjusho”. Shige plays Nishiki Hinosuke, the villain behind the Great Fire of Meireki. Mitsukuni leads a secret force of talented young orphans to chase after the villain which eventually leads him to Hinosuke. However Hinosuke is the son of Unkei (played by Ishizaka Koji), a Buddhist priest Mitsukuni deeply respects.

Matsumoto Honoka joins the cast as Mitsukuni’s wife and Tachi Hiroshi plays a great swordsman. One of the directors, Isshiki Ryuji, is the same person who directed “Modern Boys”, which makes this their second time working together.

Shige’s comment:

This is my first period drama and it feels like fate brought me to this work.

I play the role of a lone armed swordsman who caused the Great Fire of Meireki, a villain who pits himself against the leading character, Mitsukuni.

He’s an unforgivable person, but as I read the original work I started to understand the past behind his cold gaze and felt drawn to him.

I hope to be able to fully bring this darkly alluring character to life.
How will the fierce battle between Hinosuke and Mitsukuni unfold?

Yamashita Tomohisa stars in the CMs for Waqoo's carbonated cosmetics brand 'HADA NATURE' hair care series.

In the CMs, Yamashita cheers on all women and hopes to heal them with his presence. The CM song is his new song "Beautiful World," which was released digitally on September 15.

The CMs were shot utilising the latest technology "virtual production" and created by combining LED display, camera tracking, and real-time engine.

Michael Mann's drama 'TOKYO VICE' adds Ito Hideaki, Yamashita Tomohisa and more to cast

Additional cast members for 'TOKYO VICE,' a HBO Max drama produced by Michael Mann and starring Ansel Elgort, have been announced.

'TOKYO VICE' is inspired by a book written by American journalist Jake Adelstein. Set in Tokyo in the 1990's, the drama revolves around Jake (Elgort), a journalist working for a Japanese publication who digs up scandals in the Tokyo underworld scene. Previously announced cast members include Watanabe Ken and Kikuchi Rinko. Watanabe will play a skilled detective named Katagiri, and Kikuchi will play Maruyama Emiko, a senior reporter of the newspaper company where Jake works.

An additional eleven members have been added to the cast at this time. They include Ito Hideaki as Miyamoto, a detective who maneuvers secretly using his position, Kasamatsu Show as Sato, a member of the Yakuza group Chihara-Kai, and Yamashita Tomohisa as Akira, a popular and charismatic host.

Others include Sugata Shun as Ishida, the leader of Chihara-Kai, Tanida Ayumi as Tozawa, the leader of a Yakuza organization, Hagiwara Masato as Duke, the manager of an upscale hostess club, and Toyohara Kosuke as Baku, Jake's supervisor. Also making appearances are Ito Ayumi, Watanabe Makiko, Itaya Yuka, and Matsuda Miyuki.

'TOKYO VICE' will be distributed on HBO Max in the U.S. in early 2022, then in Japan on WOWOW in spring.

NEWS to provide the theme song for Kato Shigeaki's starring drama

NEWS will be providing their new song "Mirai e" as the theme song for NTV's upcoming drama 'Nigatsu no Shosha: Zettai Gokaku no Kyoshitsu' to premiere on October 16.

'Nigatsu no Shosha: Zettai Gokaku no Kyoshitsu' is based on a manga by Takase Shiho that's currently being serialised in Gekkan Big Comic Spirits. Yagira Yuya will play the role of Kuroki Kurodo, a former teacher at a prestigious cram school for the middle school entrance exam who comes to support a mid-level cram school. NEWS member Kato Shigeaki will play Haitani Jun, one of the top teachers at the prestigious cram school.

Meanwhile, Konishi Yasuharu will be in charge of the drama's insert music.
