So they finally put out an English article about it.

Quote:
Singer Seiko Matsuda marries 3rd husband
Jiji Press

Pop music icon Seiko Matsuda announced Wednesday her third marriage, to an associate professor.

"I am beginning a new life with somebody from my own generation," the singer declared on her website. "I will continue to devote myself to singing songs that will last in people's minds forever."

Matsuda, 50, has a daughter, 25-year-old singer and actress Sayaka Kanda, with her first husband, actor Masaki Kanda.

Matsuda married her second husband, dentist Hiroyuki Hatano, in May 1998. When she divorced him in 2000, she said their relationship had begun to sour the previous year, when Hatano moved to the United States to study.

Congratulations to Seiko. Hoping for a happy and lasting marriage!

Very Very is Oricon weekly #9 with 11,828 copies sold. That is 200 more copies and one rank higher compared to the Cherish album.

There won't be any Count Down Live Party this year. The annual tradition is broken after 10 years.
My guess is that she wants to spend the time with her husband.

Her husband is an Associate Professor at School of Medicine, Keio University. Name is Hiromasa Kawana. He is two years younger than Seiko.

Nice to see this thread back up! She really deserves the time off and all the happiness in the world so I'm glad to see her take it slow.

^ Haha, while you have a point doubt that is the case.

TV appearance on Gurunai Gochi special was announced this morning. [Dec. 27 NTV 18:30~20:54]

I hope she won't end up losing a whole lot of money again.

It's a food variety type of show for those who don't know. More info:

The show in question, called “gochi ni narimasu”(ゴチになります) is the staple feature of a variety comedy program called “Gurunai”(ぐるナイ). The basic premise is that a group of TV stars go out to high class restaurant, where the menu has no listed prices, with a goal of individually eating a certain value worth of food, this time it was ¥30,000 (~US$300).

The show follows the group, which consists of about four or five “regulars” and one or two special guests, as they gorge their way through a course of luxury foods and guess their individual running bill.

But there’s a catch – as there is almost always a catch in Japanese shows! The person who is the farthest off the preset value has to pay the tab for the entire group, generally in the ten’s of hundreds of dollars. One person is also chosen randomly to buy “souvenirs” for people, at an additional cost of another few hundred.

I’ve continually wondered what it is about this show keeps people (including myself) watching – it’s apparently been on over 10 years; maybe it’s the depiction of fancy foods most people will never eat, or maybe it’s the sadistic ending of watching some poor sap of a TV star shell out all their money to pay the exorbitant bill.

What ever the reason, I must admit, strangely, that it has made me want to try it sometime with friends, though at a significantly cheaper place!

(Oh, and this time the final bill was ¥227,500. One of the regulars lost after personally eating her way through ¥39,600 worth of food!)

It was 354,800 I believe, all four appearances on the show amounts 540,100 JPY.
(that is, unless I have misunderstood how the system works)

540,100 JPY = 6,422 USD

Gurunai 12/27 preview in a TV magazine (credit to "HM") :

Other guest is Noriyuki Higashiyama from Johnny's group Shounentai (1985 debut).

Looking forward to watching this as soon as possible! I have enjoyed all episodes.

Aha I love that show :-p

There's a similar show where really expensive items are mixed in with super cheap items, sometimes even junk picked up on the street for free, and you have to pick out the cheap items. But if you pick the expensive ones you have to buy them. When BigBang were on, Sol lost twice and had to but both items lol I forget how much but I think one was about $1000

Anyway, I hope I remember to watch Seiko on it xD

^ Do you by any chance remember the name of that show? You made me curious about it now.

Just saw next episode preview of Gurunai. Seiko's wearing glasses! Her age is finally catching up with her.

Doubtful, but would for sure make things easier if it was available through torrents. Took me weeks to obtain a copy last time she guested on the show.

Some random news:

Seiko will throw the honorary first pitch at the baseball game tomorrow between Chunichi Dragons (Nagoya) at Hanshin Tigers (Koshien). The director of the Tigers team is apparently a big fan of hers. She did this in the past too, but I forgot for which team. It was in 2007 or so.

And also congratulations on 33 years since debut. April 1st, 1980.

Seiko (51 years old) at the baseball opening today. Um, this game is not her thing I would say haha. The pitch went wide and up in the sky. It's not visible from the screens below, but her facial expression is still the exact same as it was in 1981. Especially in the state of confusion. In situations where they did blooper scenes and other NG stuff back in the day. It's amazing.

TV screens:

EDIT: And one more, this is from Yahoo! Japan.

I guess they don't dub her as eternal idol for nothing...
Some even call her 勝利の女神 ("Goddess of Victory") now since Tigers won that game.

Anyway, this thread is about to close as it has reached its limit. Anyone want to create a new one? Or I might do it eventually. Depending on if there will be any noteworthy Seiko news to post.
