![]() When it comes to K-pop, I usually just keep my opinions and thoughts to myself. To be honest I personally do not communicate with other K-pop fans because of their irrational and childish behavior. The way some of those fans carry themselves is just downright repulsive and maddening. Real talk. Besides, I'm mostly a fan of old school K-pop (1999-2002).

I see a lot more crazy coming from the K-Pop fans than those of J-Pop though. I'm a fan of both J and K-Pop, and have encountered SO MUCH more hostility from K-Pop fans. J-Pop fans, like someone said, can be very elitist with their favorite artists and put down other artists, but the unwarranted hatred was almost always toward the rival artists, not fans. With K-Pop, if you say one negative thing about a K-Pop group, you're automatically a "hater". I remember all this retarded drama on last.fm on the 4minute page where people would flip their **** on anyone who said they didn't worship a new song or something like that. They'd literally worship Hyuna and call other female K-Pop group rappers (like Miryo and CL) dykes; I kid you not. It's just...disgusting. It honestly lead to me disliking 4minute, as crazy as that sounds. A similar thing happened to me with Hikki because of some really extreme fans, but Hikki's the only Japanese artist that's happened to me with. With K-Pop, I practically can't even listen to or watch SNSD because all I can think of is their craziest fans (which seems to be about 75% of them) and how freakily obsessed they are. Some people just need to calm the **** down. Last edited by bondingo; 25th July 2011 at 03:34 AM. |

![]() Someone else touched upon it in this thread already but as for the Korean fans themselves being "intense", it has to do with it's essentially preteens to teens that listen to idol music in Korea. The possessiveness, jealousy, bashing, harassment, etc. stems from immaturity. |

Of course there are, but I think that KPop-fans are more intense, when it comes to hating.
I can only speak about my personal experiences, though. Their reasons for hating JPop are mostly: *Japanese artists can't sing as well as Korean *can't dance as well *and are in general not as talented as Korean musicians Korean musicians (or at least idol groups) seem to get a very strict - not to say cruel - training. But there are so many Japanese singers, who are just as talented as Korean ones. I just don't get all the hate thing. Why a person would want to waste their time and energy with hating somebody is beyond me!

Hm I still don't agree. I become convinced by going through various sites and communities that both sides are insane.

I can remember that JPop-fans on tumblr stopped following my blog, because I started posting KPop-graphics! I mean what the...! ![]() But I try to stay as far away from drama as possible. I already have enough drama in my own life and really don't need to participate in stupid fights between JPop- and KPop-fans! When I like a song then I like it and I couldn't care less from which country the singers are from!

especially in tumblr. I stay following ones even with JPop biases that I don't like. Idc really as long as we have something other than that to share. And I agree, as long as it's enjoyable whenever they came from I don't care! Quote:
Besides, based on my experience KPop fans don't really care about what happen in JPop scenes so they kinda shut about it until it involves their idol. |

I think it has something to do with the Korean culture, I'm no expert in Korean culture and I only speak from what I've heard from a Korean friend. Koreans tend to be blunt about things which I think translate to being aggressive when someone criticize their idol and in the same way do horrible things to the idols they don't like just because they can.
I'm probably wrong but I doubt any knows the answer since it's very subjective. |

I'm sure sensationalism has something to do with it as well.
The KPop industry loves to (over)hype up news about themselves so I wouldn't be surprised if it goes both ways for both good news and bad news. It's a "any publicity is good publicity" mentality and it probably feeds a vicious cycle of fans eating up the hype and acting crazy and then media outlets reporting on that craziness. If there was no hype, the KPop industry and fandoms probably wouldn't be that much different from JPop. |

Okay, I didn't have a CLUE about the crazy fanboys and girls until I read this thread (yes sometimes I'm a very clueless girl) but the part about the girl that commited suicide just brought me to tears, I'm really shocked ._.
I can't understand people who act like that ^^; Envy is sure a sickening thing ^^; |

I think kpop fans are so crazy because the most of them are teenagers. Teens are always crazy...

This thread has opened my eyes. Holy, I didn't know that these kinds of things went on in the K-Pop fandom. I assumed it would be only as bad as the J-Pop fandom.

It's hard, in my opinion, to be loud and obnoxious and not be elitist, haha. But again, everyone has different experiences. The reason I didn't talk about Jpop fans was because this is a topic on Kpop fans...
Of course Jpop has crazy fans. Although the elitism I feel with Jpop fans is usually towards other Jpop singers. i.e. koda is better than ayu, utada is the best compared to anyone, etc etc. Plus, the majority of my experience with kpop fans was from 2004-2006, when I listened to both jpop and kpop equally and regularly. kpop fans then and now are quite different, which I believe is due to the recent popularity spike with korean music. but yes, both sides of the spectrum have crazy fans. no better no worse, just crazy.
