I really liked her outfit! And I do think even though she missed a couple notes here and there, it was not a bad performance. True, it wasn't the one she was hoping to perform but I think she shouldn't beat herself over it.

Yeah the outfit was of really bad taste. I know they're trying to make her look sexy but she looked pretty ridiculous in it.

I just realised how weird she sang "Baby please". She sounded like a dying seal.

As for the falling ratings that someone mentioned, the second half actually drew in bigger ones than last year. What about the Music Station one? Sure, she was like "BABY PLEASE" during the first line, but I can't remember it being as bad as the Kouhaku one.

I'm really not sure if I should give her a full listen or not: I've only heard her during the Kouhaku live bit and while I definitely don't want to judge her based on like, a 15 second clip I also didn't feel any desire to hear more of her if it's like that... What would be the best song to give Leah a listen, do you guys think?
I've read a lot of your comments on here and in the previous thread and it has me wondering if her label just isn't cashing in on her without trying to see if they can shape her into a (more) credible artist. I mean besides her looks, what can we say about her music? Does it stand on its own? Does it at least try to sound original, though it's a part of a genre with a set sound? I dunno... I give her credit for doing something so risky as going to a totally different country and trying to learn the language/become a musical artist to a brand new market (I mean she's only a year older than I am!! That's crazy!!) but she doesn't seem to have much going for her right now or much to show for it musically. I guess... I want to give Leah a shot but I'm not sure if it's even worth it. I just think she really needs to be polished up and then brought back out to the entertainment world.

Aww, I think she has a ways to go but I enjoy her music and so what if she can't do a perfect live? Well I think it depends on your favorite type of music is when giving Leah a shot.
My personal favorites (but I think these aren't very well received by most) Are You Feelin' For Me? Drive Me Crazy Impossible But otherwise, I would recommend L.O.V.E. U Again And Again Aishiteru ~Love Story~ [maybe] If you wanna go by the popular vote, I would just go with the singles: Koi Shiyou, Softly and L.O.V.E. U |

she's shown many times she can sing
she's not mariah carey, but she's a marketable singer with some talent to carry her along she seems really determined to be a true singer and not just an idol, so i have to give her props who cares about her past occupation? just cause she was a racy model before does not mean she can't be nervous posing in front of a camera and singing in front of millions of people, some of them being fellow singers are two completely different things. |

I think her kouhaku outfit was pretty ridicilous, but it fit the otaku/akihabara idol theme the whole medley had. I don't know if this is posted, by Leah had the 2nd and 3rd best selling photobooks of 2007. chart @ Oricon I'm not a fan of photobooks, I've only seen her 2nd phobobook HEAVEN. I must say I was positively surprised, it's shot in Africa and it's a collection of beuatiful photos. I was expecting something more tacky lol also in 2007 Leah has been in the cover of Playboy Weekly Japan 8 times. Playboy Japan is a bit classier than it's western counterpart, it's not nude. |

Okay so I managed to get her album--I'm in lo~ve with "Missing." I think it's the prettiest thing I've ever heard--and she doesn't sound that bad! Her voice has kind of a nasally sound to it on some notes, but other than that she's not bad at all...
Are you feelin' for me is a pretty cool track--I like the beat, but sometimes I feel her vocals are a little too weak: now I know what some of you meant by the music "overpowering" her. Even so I really liked this song! Very nice. Drive me crazy is a fun song, too. A nice, upbeat little melody... L.O.V.E. U I actually don't like that much--just a typical little JPop song, it doesn't do much for me musically. Again and Again & Aishiteru are really nice, though: different styles, different sounds... she experimented with a few things on this album, I see. I noticed the English use in her songs, but "Missing" is predominately Japanese (and beautiful, I might reiterate), Koi Shiyo is mainly Japanese with just a few bits of English thrown in (like some other J-Pop songs).. And honestly? OLIVIA (Lufkin) released a fully-English album in Japan some years back so I don't know if it's weird or wrong to use English in a Japanese-release or as a Japanese artist... but it's probably not wise, considering you're pandering to that audience's language... Anyway, Leah's songs aren't too "cookie cutter" that I can't enjoy them... honestly for a debut this is an interesting one. I just hope she stays around long enough! She's piqued my interest

^Well, Most of Utada Hikaru's songs have English in them. I think most Jpop songs have at least certain amounts of English in them...
Anyhow, maybe if she sung in English it would be better, because it's actually her Native Language and all.

I'm glad you enjoyed her album. I think her experimenting paid off as well. As far as English goes, BONNIE PINK has done like 2 English songs on her album "Thinking Out Loud" and she did 2 I believe on...I'm forgetting the album, the one with "Mint." Personally I find her English songs to be really good, just like Leah's.

M-Flo does alot of english
And Kuu tried to do english in her songs also 0.0 Personally, I love Impossible and Again and Again <3 Softly was amazing, the first time I heard her, and L O V E U is catchy.. Personally, I love Leah cause shes always so humble and cutsy, but is still sexy at the same time. I think its important to look good without being trashy XD

I think the outfit she wore at Kouhaku was awesome! I don't see why you don't like it guys.
I base my opinions on artists, mainly in a studio environment. Lives are a bonus, but if they are bad live singers, it doesn't bother me much. I like Leah

Anyone knows about this?
• Japan-based American pin-up girl/singer Leah Dizon (21) has her first "scandal". Today's issue of weekly gossip magazine "Friday" says she is seeing the handsome 26-year-old son of her management agency's president. Still a university student, he is also a director of the company and has worked on Dizon's promo video production. He has been seen several times picking up Dizon in his car and taking her to his apartment. The agency denies that there's any romance, with the limp explanation that she "is visiting her cat at his apartment, as she's not allowed to keep pets at her own home." A likely story! • Once upon a time, it was as if the whole nation would tune in to NHK's "Kohaku Uta Gassen" every New Year's Eve. Ratings have dropped dramatically over the last few years but the show has had the right kind of publicity to draw an audience this year. The biggest suspense is whether SMAP leader Nakai Masahiro (35) and current J-Pop queen Koda Kumi (25) will finally make their romance official. Then there is U.S. import Leah Dizon (21) who was in tears at rehearsals when she couldn't remember the lyrics to the closing song, where all participants are led by enka veteran Kitajima Saburo. She originally had the highly visible spot right behind "Sabu-chan" but has since been moved to the back row. Then there is the sad story of Dreams Come True vocalist Yoshida Miwa (42), whose common-law husband passed away a few months ago. She and veteran Wada Akiko (57) were both in tears as they embraced during rehearsals. All in all, it's sure to be an emotional show.
