^Didn't ayu say in the All Night Nippon interview that "A Song for XX" is about her mother? I think she did. And she also said that people can put whatever they want in place for "XX". Maybe she wants the listeners to put as "XX" whatever they relate the song to.
As to her changing the lyrics of "A Song for XX", maybe she was too shy to address the person directly while writing the lyrics? Or maybe she did notice only afterwards that she wasn't talking about people around her, but this one particular person? And I think saying things like "obviously" etc. isn't often appropriate. Because as long as we don't know what ayu herself thought or felt while making a song, we can only make assumptions. Maybe some songs were written about a particular person, but it has become universal afterwards. Just because she changes "you (kimi, anata)" to "you all (minna)" doesn't necessarily mean it was meant to be like this from the start. Otherwise she probably would have written "you all (minna)" to begin with, wouldn't she?

^Didn't she say "I don't even know if he's alive or dead" during the TIME interview? This was in 2002, darou? Maybe ayu or her mother got to know about his whereabouts? That ayu hardly knew anything about him doesn't mean that it stayed like this until today.
-edit- Yes, it's TIME interview

Memorial Address is for her father. I hesitate to talk about this issue because this is private things of ayu, but let me tell.
her father may have passed away on 06/30/2002. The number (0630) which ayu writes on a mirror in one of the pictures in the album "memorial address" is thought to be the day when her father passes away. The lyrics of memorial address says that the sky kept on crying on that summer (means it was raining a lot). The summer of 2002 was, I remember, very cold and we had a lot of rain even on august after the rainy season. So, that may be about 06/30 of 2002. This may be a coincidence, but we also need to remember the song July 1st. The lyrics say "if its sunny tomorrow, let's go to that sea. I'm gonna change the tears I had yesterday to the tenderness." The "yesterday" of July 1st is 06/30. She says she cried on 06/30 and now singing on July 1st. Is this the coincidence? Or she does mean?? But July 1st was released to the public before 2002. It is also possible that her father passed away before 2002. No one knows the truth other than ayu and her family. |

I think if her father died, it was probably in 2003. Because there are no hints about this on the "RAINBOW" album, while it seems that both "No way to say" and "Memorial address" may be about her father. By the way, one should also consider the 0630 picture is coupled with the "Greatful days" lyrics in the booklet of "Memorial address"...
