Come on, that's just the start of the second week - her first week is over, we don't have to worry about that here, we've got a new batch of singles now!

For once I know, there are 2 different type of miwa's CD, first press and regular. How to see the differences the CD just from seeing the cover? Here's a little tutorial for you :p

When opened the CD, you'll find that miwa's always have a color tray for the CD, like this.

But to see the inside judging from the covers? Since the color tray is hard to see because of the obi, you'll not recognizing it easily ^^a

I changed the translation of one line in chAngE since it seems uta-net screwed up one line (I saw the correct version in the booklet).

"I won’t ever return to your side" => "I want to return to your side someday"

The last stanza makes more sense now imo ;D

It’s been raining all day so she decided to explain the story behind ‘amayadori’ (which means ‘taking shelter from the rain’).

It has a powerful message so I translated this fully:

I made this song at the time when I was taking exams.

I made it on a rainy day like today.
It was something I felt when I was taking shelter from the rain.

When I was standing still I realized that I had been trying too hard.

In those days, I would be unable to stop my tears from falling at night.

I realized that I was carrying too much anxiety and pain and that I had gone past my limit.

At that time I got a mail from a friend of mine that was also filled with messages of distress and worries. Thanks to that mail I learned I wasn’t the only one feeling like this.

Originally the plan was for me to re-sing and re-record my vocals for ‘amayadori’, but because I feel my voice at that time clearly shows how I felt back then, I decided to leave the vocals the way they are.

That’s why my voice sounds so young (lol).

What kind of weather is it inside your hearts?

Please listen to this song to take shelter from the rain in your heart when you feel troubled.

Furukawa Hiroshi also showed up.

She felt the combined sound of 26 people was great.

She also played ‘you can do it’ together with Furukawa for everyone.

She performed chAngE and she felt she sang the line ‘atashi ga kawatta saki ni anata ga iru nara anata ga kawatta saki ni atashi ga iru nara’ with more power than ever.

Starting today, her new school term has begun.

She’ll be happy if people who want to change and challenge new things but never had the courage to do so, will feel encouraged by chAngE and try their hardest.

‘you can do it’ is a song she made to cheer up people at times when you want to try your best but things go wrong anyway.

‘amayadori’ is a song she made when she was down and felt lost. She filled it with the feeling: ‘by knowing your weaknesses you can grow stronger’.

A scan of Ulquiorra (a Bleach character) is included in the first press edition. She mentions how much smaller she is than him if you put the picture next to each other.

On the 9th of September miwa released her 3rd single!

“I want to continue to change endlessly.”

Filled with power and with her eyes focused on hope, miwa created a refreshing rock number that she plays on the electric guitar!


----Your first single ‘don’t cry anymore’ and second single ‘Little Girl’ were songs that showcased the charming sound of the acoustic guitar. But this time you made a complete change and accentuated the sound of the electric guitar. The song ‘chAngE’ leaves a powerful impression. I think it’s a song that shows us a peek of a new side of miwa-san.

“That’s right. On my last two singles I played the acoustic guitar, but this time I challenged playing the electric guitar for the first time. That’s why I turned the ‘A’ and ‘E’ in ‘chAngE’ into capitals, in order to show this change from acoustic to electric. It was a new challenge to me. The theme I included in this song is: ‘I want to continue to change endlessly’. In order to properly express this theme I needed a sound that can only be created with an electric guitar. I think it’s important to be honest to your feelings and thoughts, and to never place yourself in a box. I’ll be happy if people will take notice of this while watching me play my electric guitar.”

----I felt that your wish of wanting to change and the fact that you face your own feelings head on, is your process of changing from a child into an adult. Also, listeners will probably think of all kinds of scenes when listening to your lyrics, so please tell us about the things you realized when you wrote the words.

“I think that there will also be times where I pass by the people important to me because of the changes inside me. But, I believe that the day will come where we overcome those things and manage to understand each other again. I included that thought in the lyrics.”

----I feel you always pay a lot of attention to the different sounds the guitar has. This time, you made a single full of variation: the sound of the electric guitar in ‘chAngE’, the feeling of excitement in ‘you can do it!’ and the soft, gentle feeling of ‘amayadori’. What part of the sound did you focus on the most?

“As for chAngE, it has a fast-paced, rock-like band sound to it because of the electric guitar. Secondly, ‘you can do it!’ has a country-like arrangement. Lastly, ‘amayadori’ showcases the great sound of the acoustic guitar. I tried to give it a simple but slightly heartrending sound.”

----All three songs are filled with courage and with the feeling of facing forward. I think people will spontaneously get a smile on their faces if they listen to them live. What things do you wish for in your own music, miwa-san?

“My songs are filled with my own experiences so I think everyone can feel them as being familiar to themselves. I want to share music which you can feel close to in real life.”

----What kind of record has this single turned into, to you personally?

“This single has been a new challenge for me. It’s become a work that will encourage me at times when I feel lost. I also want to perform these songs live soon.”

----You’ve liked performing live right from the start, right? (Laughs). Last question, miwa-san, how have you changed and do you want to continue to change in the future?

“With this single I tried to place myself outside of the box, without thinking ‘this isn’t like me’. And I experienced the importance of believing in various possibilities and the importance of challenging things. My consciousness has gone through the biggest change. After this, I want to make all kinds of songs and I want to continue to change.”

“The electric guitar was a new challenge to me. I never played it before, and I had never performed with it in front of people. Whenever I make a new song I think: ‘I want to include some sort of surprise’. So this time I thought, ‘I want to make a rock song that’s fast-paced and works well at live performances’ and at that time the sound of an electric guitar rang through my head. I wanted to use the linear sound of the electric guitar.”

----You sing with a spirit of wanting to change and move forward without placing any limitations of yourself. Is this something you, miwa-san, always feel?
“It is. I don’t want to be stuck in a box. There are times when people look at me and think ‘she’s like this’, but if I start thinking ‘I am like this’, then I won’t be able to move forward from that spot. I feel that if I don’t wish to move forward, I will become shallow and weak. I think it’s important to have some kind of action in your life.”

---Have you had this way of thinking since you were a child?
“Maybe. I was full of curiosity. If friends told me, ‘I feel you’re like this’, I would immediately answer, ‘but I also have sides that are like this and like that’ (laughs).”

----(Laughs) In the lyrics you use phrases like ‘motto hizumasete yo’ and ‘motto haurasete yo’. The words ‘hizumi’ and ‘hauru’ are often used by people who play an instrument. I felt those words really fit you, miwa-san.
“It’s a song with an electric guitar, so I wanted to use words that are special to electric guitars in the lyrics.”

----The kanji for ‘hizumi’ is usually read as ‘yugami’, so I think there are a lot of guitar players who will feel a sense of affinity to the lyrics because they get to read it as ‘hizumi’.
“I see (laughs). In daily life it is indeed often read as ‘yugami’, isn’t it? This time, while I was creating the song, I wrote the lyrics at the same time. Up until now I’ve often first created the song and afterwards written the lyrics to it. I think that in this song I could convey the power of the sound in the lyrics as well.”

----Also, I got the impression that, in the lyrics, this wish is also included: ‘I might be separated from somebody because of my changes, but I hope we can meet again in the future’.
“Actually, I wrote this song about two months before my debut. I thought ‘I want to start moving towards the music I want to make’, but I realized that my friends might not have started to move towards their own definite dreams. I wrote the lyrics with this in mind. At that time I felt that the amount of times that I could see my friends was declining. To change is a positive thing, but it also makes you carry a sense of loneliness. But those friends will also surely someday start to move towards something and start to change. That’s why I wanted this song to focus on the hope that lies in the future.”

----Come to think of it… The ‘A’ and ‘E’ in ‘chAngE’ also seem to have some sort of special meaning hidden in them.
“The ‘A’ stands for acoustic guitar and the ‘E’ stands for electric guitar (laughs). When I wrote ‘change’ the normal way I realized, ‘acoustic and electric is included in it!’ Because this connected with the theme of the song and my change from acoustic to electric guitar, I was really happy when I discovered this (laughs).”

----(Laughs) The b-sides are also good. First of all, ‘you can do it!’ has a country, rock sound to it.
“It’s a song I made for my little sister when she was taking exams. I was a senior high school student at that time. I sang about the things I was too embarrassed to say to her. I remember she was moved when she heard it and said ‘I’ll try my hardest!’. I like artists like Sheryl Crow and Taylor Swift so I’m happy I could finally give it the country arrangement that had always wanted to give it. It has a fun chorus that everyone can sing along to when I perform it live.”

----You might have written this song because your little sister was having a hard time even though she was trying her best. You’re a great sister to support her by creating a song like that.
“No, no, now I feel embarrassed (laughs).”

----Has your little sister already listened to this new version?
“She has. It made her happy. She probably never thought it would be featured on a CD (laughs). I hope that this way it can become a song that will encourage everyone.”

---The song ‘amayadori’ has an acoustic tune that pierces the heart.
“I wrote this song when I was in my 3rd year of senior high. Though I’ve only released it now, it still has the vocals of that time. I kept them because they have a nuance in them that I currently can’t put across. That take has a nuance of instability in it. That’s probably because I sang it while feelings the feelings I had at the time I wrote the song. I was distressed at that time. I was doing the same thing every day and I felt I couldn’t move forward. At that time I had exams and I was unable to meet up with my friends. I felt I was the only one suffering like this and felt trapped. When I was taking shelter from the rain, I saw several people walking at an extremely fast pace. I suddenly thought, ‘I wonder if I am also walking too fast in such a way?’ I felt the important of standing still at times. I started to re-examine myself. I’ve included these thoughts in ‘amayadori’.”

----To me, it’s a really good song that vividly shows the process of becoming more positive. You were pretty good for only a 3rd year student.
“I was delicate at that time (laughs).”

---(Laughs) If you could meet the miwa of that time and tell her ‘that take will someday be featured on a CD’, she’d be surprised, right?
“I would think ‘What!?’ (laughs).”

----This single has turned into another excellent work. What kind of things do you want to do in the future?
“I hope I will be able to release all kinds of songs in the future. I want to do all kinds of things, such as a song with a relaxed tempo or a gentle tune. I also want to continue to work hard on my live performances. I’ll be happy if everyone can see me once. I also want everyone to please listen to chAngE live.”

I think it's sweet she wrote 'you can do it!' for her little sister ^-^
