I just think the relation of the two needs to stop. It was interesting to compare them at first, but now it's just getting really old. They're different artists and people should be able to appreciate both on their own. Leona may not have written anything on her album (besides co writing Whatever It Takes), but she certainly makes up for that with her performance. If Mariah is saying that Leona isn't a singer because she doesn't write her own material or for whatever other reason, then she's sorely mistaken. Last time I checked, Leona was a singer, and a damn good one at that. I love how Mariah can appreciate rappers that have crap for talent but can't appreciate someone who can actually sing.
I loved it cuz it was funny that she is such a diva. But where did Mariah say that because Leona doesn't write her own stuff that she isn't a singer? And please reread the article, I don't see Mariah referring to her by name. She's talking about all the singer that have come out and been compared to her, but none of them have ever maintained their initial success (Christina, Kelly). I really think it sucks that people have to compare them. There's room in the music industry for more than one amazing vocalist.

And my source is the New York Daily News.

I'm not seeing Mariah dissing Leona paticularly, eventho I'm sure the interviewer tried his/hers best to get Mariah to diss someone. it's the way these interviews are handled

I'm positive that Mariah is just sick of being compared, and the bit about the writes is probably about her merits a song-writer being overlooked by the comparisons. "just" a singer can't be "the new mariah", since she's also written plenty of songs that have become classics.
besides it's pretty offensive to call a new artist as "the new mariah", becaue it's sorta implies the "old mariah" is over the hill and done for. so I can see why she's annoyed.

I'm also sure that Leona would like to stand on her own withouth being the "new something" & constantly compared, but she can't help it. the media spins it this way since it gets people's attentions. but IMO fans of both artists should just ignore it

You're right, and from this point on I won't acknowledge any more references to Mariah because Leona should be respected on her own as an artist (whether she writes her material or not). I think it would be wise if some of us were to do the same. This is the Leona thread after all. Let's keep the Mariah discussion in that thread.

I first heard leona lewis in our dining hall here on campus. we have mtv u playing in there all day. a few weeks ago we had spring weekend (where bands come and there's lots of outdoor activities) and we were leaving the chick-fil-a to go back to our rooms and I heard bleeding love start from the stage. she came to our university and was one of the singers earlier in the day. she sounds really good live too. it was neat to see her though, she seemed really nice.

it was pouring down rain so we couldn't stay to meet her after her performance. she also sang a song she sings with young joc but he wasn't there.

Leona's amazing performance on Idol last night helped boost her sales and now she's back to number one on iTunes in the US. The crowd was seriously going crazy for her during Bleeding Love. I'm so happy for her.

Britney Spears, Ashanti, Carrie Underwood, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey did, off the top of my head. In general, the people who have gotten a #1 debut album and single have had a lot of promotion and hype surrounding them. I remember when people were saying Ashanti was the new Janet

I wish you two would....keep goin' at with this Leona/Mariah/Whitney grudge that yall are holding towards each other.

Okay, personally, whoever said that Ashanti was like the new Janet, need to be shot. THERE will never be no new Janet. Ugh, this reminds me of the time when they said Ciara was the new Janet and it was all because she could dance.

Oh, yea. I took another listen to Bleeding Love the other day (I still dislike it) and I realized that she kinda does sound a lil tiny bit like Whitney and Mariah....but it was like in certain parts in her song. -hides-

Haha, oh I love you girl. Maybe I'll text you sometime when I'm in class later today

And as for the single, it's pretty much definite that it's going to be Better In Time.

OMG! We so haven't text to each other in a LONG time. *is gonna wait for Bondy's text*

Is it upbeat or another ballad? I wanna see if she can dance instead of just looking into the camera sad saying, "Keep, keep, keep, bleeding...I keep, keep, bleeding love!"

In Europe Leona released a two doubled a-side single.
Better in Time / Footprints In The Sand!
Two ballads.. i love these two songs but I think that they won't sell good as Bleeding Love..

I was wondering if they'll reshoot a video as well. It seems kind of pointless that they'd do it again, but I don't know their reasoning so they could. And Better In Time is already her number two top selling song on iTunes and it's in the Top 100 on iTunes as well (#58 ATM). That's pretty good considering that that song has had no promotion here whatsoever. All she ever sings is Bleeding Love here in the US (except she did sing Better In Time once on morning television).

Wow.. she's going great in the US! Here in Italy, at the moment, Better in Time hasn't got success... let's see what happens!

I quite like "Better In Time". I like it better than "Bleeding Love" by a lot. I don't know how I feel about the video though, I'd definitely like to see a re-shoot.

her spirit album is doing really well in US. Remember the fact that she is an UK singer. But i really hate her video (better in time?) that copy Mariah's we belong together.
