^ lol (I like Laura too)
I'm being myself and loving Ayu and if some of her songs make me look effeminate, by some ppl's standards.. then I'll sing and dance, bring it on, I'm loving it! and btw, I listen to so many different kinds of music and styles.. if you like it and it makes you feel good, then someone else shouldn't have the right to make you feel any different about it.. Go Ayu!

Not really, I got into ayu mainly for her voice/lyrics but also for how she looks, I probably would of never gotten into ayu as much if I didn't like what I was looking at, and with ayu its hard not to love her songs, even if they are ballads and are a guy

In the west, If you listen to the song "girlish" your friends will surely think you're affeminate, but if you listen to a song like "About You" people will surely think you're weird because the song is in japanese. lol.
There's no scape ![]() I'm a simple straight old guy and I listen to Ayu because her songs make me feel very good. Her music makes great company. Her songs keep me awake when I'm working late or way home in the bus while all the guys listening to metal-hiphop-reggaeton or whatever already fell asleep. The most of the messages in the lyrics are touching and inspiring for both genders, so, Ayu's songs works very well for male or female ears. ![]() BTW, Ayu is hot... Feel myself as affeminate is impossible, specially if you find yourself watching the Sparkle PV with your mouth wide open or looking for a woman at least 10% as fascinating than Ayu.The main concern for us wouldn't be if the fact of listen to ayu makes us look affeminate or not. IMO the important think is if we are free-independent-open minded guys or like little-kiddy-chickens, affraid to be ourselves no matter what people might say.

Nope, it doesn't make me effeminate at all.
Im enjoying her good and honest music which is the matters most. There are times that I parodied some of her covers for fun when I got really bored or making my friends laugh. Still, im a straght guy!

Although, it's only one of the reasons why I love her. It's cliche to say cos she's hot it makes it OK for a guy to listen to her. Of course she's hot, but Ayu is different though, she is not manufactured pop and her music speaks for itself. Like you said, it's hard to find a woman I'm more fascinated with.I discovered her with 'Because of You' which I think is one of her most masculine songs. But like others said, there are some songs that you go 'why do I listen to this?' but you enjoy them anyway cos it's Ayu. eg. Ladies Night Last edited by Tony G; 4th August 2009 at 05:05 PM. |

The first Ayu's video I saw was HEAVEN, at that time i only understood sayonara from this song, when it finished i was crying. Never happened something like that to me. I didn't feel girly, just the emotion i can feel even i don't understand anything made me feel something i can't explain.
Usually i don't like too much her girly things, like the USB version from NL (because of that i bought the DVD+2CD version, pink lol) or the pink poster from D/G single (i have it in it's roll) I'd love if she release stuff not so pink, with hearts, wings or the gay flag's colours xD But i think the most important thing is i like her because of the emotion in her songs.

I've never thought of it that way. I'm a normal average acting guy who happens to be gay, I don't think listening to Ayu makes me feel effeminate. I love her music. I also love different kinds of music that not everyone listens to and some that lots of people do. In my opinion it really doesn't and shouldn't matter. We listen to the music we listen to because it makes us happy, etc. I don't think it has anything to do with feeling effeminate or masculine. People don't listen to music for that.

Well...
Where I live (England by the way) if your a guy and you listen to women, your gay. If you're a girl and you listen to rock/hip-hop, you're a lesbian. I think it's quite unfair because several people have said "are you gay" because of my music tastes. I reply with a stern no and the evil eye. If I start singing songs like "my name's WOMEN", "Ladies Night", "girlish" etc. they would think I'm effeminite because they are aimed directly at women. Same goes for Namie Amuro, if I sang "How to be a Girl", they would think I'm gay. But, I never tell anyone apart from my bestest friends that I like Asian music. I mean, some (well, actually, most) boys at my school would think Kuu was dead fit. Like I do, I mean, if Kuu has a boyfriend, I want to be him and get my hand up her top. And I'm sure many others would feel the same way too. But, I fancy the pants off Kuu and I wanna rip off that tape dress from ECSTASY. So would other boys in my class. But, if I sang songs like "That Ain't Cool" and female empowerment songs, they would think I'm gay. But I'm not. I mean, why would I wanna get my hand up Kuu's top if I was gay? I'm not gay and in no way do I feel gay. But, if I told the whole school that, the next day I would get asked by practically every person in the whole school the dreaded "are you gay?" question. But I don't feel in any way gay or effeminite for liking Ayu or Kuu or Namie or Ai or Ami or Hikki or alan or ayaka or aiko or any female Asian singer. Even if I didn't sing female empowerment songs and I sang "About You" or "alterna" they would think I'm crazy because it's in Japanese, Korean or Chinese. There's no escaping it. CONCLUSION: I don't feel gay or effeminite for liking any female Asian Pop Singer. Right then, that's my long post for today. Alex, aka Ayu's Rainbow P.S. You have just found out that I fancy Kuu!!!!! God, that took some revealing

There is no escape. Your only real choice is being yourself, no matter how cheesy and overplayed looks. You really have no choice if you look carefully ![]() May be some of u may feel uncomfortable, but that's because probably you give too much importance to the stereotypes... if you want to do that, fine, but keep in mind you decide what's good for you, no one else can (or should) ![]() You like ayu? great you don't? well... that's their problem, not mine. ![]() Ps.- I listen to a lot of metal and rock and i love ayu's rock songs... and it doen'st make me feel manly... it makes me feel strong. and i believe that adjective should not apply to guys only.

I don't mind. Who cares what they think? And no I don't feel effeminate at all. Everyone knows I love ayu.
I let my Days ringtone ring in class. It's not as embarrassing as some of the other ppl's ringtones about the current songs (like bad romance lyrics- I want your ugly, I want your disease) o_0 or (3 lyrics- 1, 2, 3 Peter, Paul & Mary, Gettin' down with 3P Everybody loves ***). Would you like it if your teacher or boss hear those songs? D: At least ppl ask me what's my ringtone, unlike others they just laugh. |

Why should I feel effeminate for liking a singer that makes songs that I enjoy?
Yeah, I shouldn't feel effeminate. If people ask me who my favorite singer is, I'll just say Hamasaki Ayumi. People who asked me that never had a problem with me saying a name of a female japanese pop star. In fact, some people were interested in listening to her. (But they get bored quickly. XD)

Well, some of my friends are like, "Eh? This is the first time I see a guy being a big fan of Ayumi Hamasaki"
But i don't care. xD For me, many of Ayu's songs, lyrics, and some video clips are even more 'manly' than many male bands here in Indonesia whose songs are crybaby.

Nope. In fact I think it's rather normal in Singapore? lol maybe it's jsut my company. Yes, sometimes going to the Karaoke, and singing Ayu's songs (or even female songs) while my other guy friends sing male songs...I feel awkward but I cant help it, my vocal range is like that..and Ayu's songs happen to be singable for me (so there's extra love). I liked Ayu in the first place for her music...somehow I feel like, its really mainstream..not too over the top with her style..and yea, she rocks
