Most Definitely. Because they rule themselves out.

Sorry not answering before, I forgot I replyed to this thread xD

I was a member of a Brazilian Jpop forum, the moderator was a Nakashima stan... and she was all the time writing huge essays about how Nakashima was an amazing musician (what I always found strange, don't know now, but at that time she had never really composed and only wrote some verses for a lyric), the best singer in Jpop and how much artistic integrity she had while the rest was a bunch of sell outs x_x

Yes, yes. We get it. You can play the piano. Stop shoving it down our throats in every song of yours. Same with Miyavi. "Hi. I'm Miyavi, I can play guitar." The rest is history.
Oh man, I can't stand Angela. She defiantly falls under the boring and plain category I hate.

I kinda against heavy metal, rap and cute songs. so there's no chance for me to like those songs. even Ayu's singing style in DOY @ Asia Tour 2008. I really hate it

Hahaha I think my problem is that there is TOO many visual kei bands for me to keep up with! So, I'll stick with X-JAPAN (and my B'z)!

I don't think there is anyone i'd rule out, but I am picky when it comes to female artists,

I've never tried Perfume, When they were on Himitsu no Arashi-chan VIP room, I just hated the way they speak it was like soft and cute it felt fake to me.

I don't care to listen to SMAP nor Hey Say JUMP but I have heard some of their songs, I usually just ignore them though.

I've never ruled any JPop artists out. Ever.
I love a lot of JPop, but I love more JRock. I've listened to just about every artist in JPop at least once to see if I like it. I give every band/artist a chance. Can't help it that Ayu always comes out on top for me though, she's just the best in my book.

Oh I used to do that too, my Jpop had so much diversity and great artists already and I thought it's totally satisfying, then I discovered SHINee and Girls' Generation I've been more open to kpop idols since then, a lot of them are very talented, but the songs they're given to promote don't show that at all =( (except Miss A, zero auto-tune in their title songs <3) .. I really regret not discovering them before.

For me now, I avoid Jpop idol groups, Kpop idols made them look bad in my eyes (excpet NEWS, and I try squeeze some Arashi in my iPod) and Kpop solo artists since most of them release something once every 2 years, and I'm spoiled by Ayu and other Jpop solo acts who release singles regulary

I might (again) regret some decisions later, but I'm comfortable with the way my music library looks now
I agree with you especially about the KPop thing. I know sometimes they sounded the same, the auto-tune, and the lack of musical styles. But they are talented and entertaining imo.

I dont rule artists. But I'm avoiding listening to local songs. But it's still fine for me just to hear it every now and then.

There are a bunch of artists I just don't like or don't care about.
I sometimes even don't know why exactly, but it is as it is.
For example Yui and Kana Nishino, they're boring and bland for me.

GIRL NEXT DOOR. I haven't liked any single song from them.

So you just ruled them out because of their appeal without listening to their songs? Kind of weird for me.

And about the hate for korean boybands... I think you should at least try to check some less popular ones, known for their vocal abilities not image. Maybe their works will turn out to be boring, but you'll know how many of them are talented and doesn't have a problem with sounding in the same way (voice wise) like japanese ones imo. And I wouldn't say they're in the "boys cry too" type like someone pointed it out here earlier, usually concept/image is rough and beastly, but that's for popular idol bands though

That reminded me I ruled some korean boybands out; if your music doesn't attracts me, then I don't give a **** about your looks.

^I can kinda understand not liking an artist based totally on how they act. I've always seen Namie as a bit robotic and boring, despite that her image and sound are they kinds I enjoy. But, I'm still not at all a fan. I love Kana Nishino and I think her personality is a bit bland, but she seems genuinely sweet, so its okay.

^ That doesn't explain ruling them out though imo. And I didn't say they have to be fans. If I had to decide what artists to listen depending on their personality then I'd probably be into only 3-5 singers/groups lol.

Yeah the hate on Korean boybands doesn't seem that sensible to me if you haven't actually gave them a chance .. Anyone heard of Super Junior's K.R.Y ? SHINee's Onew and Jonghyun ? CNBLUE ? 2AM ? There are a lot of talent within Kpop idols, but their overall image give people th wrong impression, sadly =(
Just gonna leave this here.

lol sorry for getting worked up , but it makes me sad when people rule them out without really trying their music or because they think they have no talent

YES!!! They are quite a few:

ARASHI!!: If I ever hear another one of their songs I swear my ears will start to bleed and I'll become tone deaf for the rest of my life. [Exaggeration, duh] In fact, I doubt I'm gonna listen to any of JE band ever again.

GIRL NEXT DOOR: Okay I'll be a little biased here, I really like their covers and I even bought their debut album because the cover was the best thing ever despite the fact that I hated every single song in it. If they release such great covers, I might force myself to like them.

There are plenty of artists I dislike, or used to like but am not so fond of them anymore. But I suppose the only ones I'd actually rule out are JE bands because I dont like their overall style and I dont like the way many of them (especially ARASHI) get their stuff to sell, if you know what I mean.

I dunno, I guess you just have to feel it. Like, she just rubs me the wrong way. I guess I need a connection to an artist to like them, and I don't get that feeling with her. Plus, I haven't heard that "OMG" song from her yet. Nothing about her has grabbed me.
