She doesn't like any of Ayu's music, admittedly. She actually complains that Ayu is the most distracting artist I listen to - I can play KAT-TUN or NEWS loudly and she can block it out, but Ayu drives her nuts.

Confession: SURREAL took a while to be my jam. First time I listened to it, I thought it was overrated, and undeserving of it's praise.

Now it's been my favourite for years!

I instantly liked surreal.
now i avoid it like the plague.

and it must be ayu's voice. it's a truly acquired taste. but i never have a problem with voices unless they're truly awful

SURREAL only grew a little on me. I like it, but I don't think it's anything spectacular. At first I didn't like it all.

I guess I can agree with that - about her voice. It took 4-5 years for me to go from just casually listening to Ayu to being a fan of her and listening to her a lot.

i never had a problem with her voice (ASfXX is a different story. now i kinda like the immaturity of ayu's voice)
i remember just hating dearest because it dragged. i couldn't appreciate a ballad back then...

A lot of people in my life cannot stand Ayu's voice. xD
I actually like it at every stage.
It's idiosyncratic.

I loved her voice at every stage as well.
Even now.. it fits her...

So, what do you lot think of how Ayu's voice has changed?

I've seen people complain about how she sings now, saying that they prefer how she sounded before - but I think I like her voice as it is now the best.

I think her voice getting deeper is better for her... it shows that she has grown and isn't some mindless teenager, lol.

I think MY STORY, despite my lack of love for it, has some of the best vocals.
The emotion and softness within her vocals has made walking proud one of my absolute favourites. So, I'm kind of sad that her voice continued to evolve beyond this stage.

Saying that though, Ayu is an artist that continually makes music that will suit her voice at the time. Could 2000 or 2012 Ayu have sung walking proud as brilliantly as 2004 Ayu? I don't think so, and I think this can be said for all the songs and their respective Ayu voice eras.

I have no complaints about how she sings now. She sounds more powerful now.

I often skip over walking proud. >.>

I think her vocals were flawless in 2002-2006, but there is something I love about her work since FIVE. She sounds older, of course, but it really works. I definitely agree about her voice sounding more powerful - especially in ballads.

^ I love GUILTY (biased as it was the first album I listened to).

I think it suffers from a terrible tracklist order like RAINBOW.
It still annoys me that glitter and MY ALL are on there...just destroys the entire mood of the album.
It spawned Marionette, Mirrorcle World, untitled ~for her~, decision, and fated so I can't really speak against it in terms of the actual music.

I think MY STORY is a great album if you listen to each song individually, and not one after another.

I always used to skip over walking proud...
I'd hear the opening, roll my eyes, and listen to something else.
Actually, it's only become a favourite recently.
It took me forever.
And I mean, five years of fandom to like that song.

i prefer happy ending to any of the other My Story album tracks tbh

I like some of the tracks off of guilty now, but the album as a whole is just blah for me.
After years though I have come to enjoy it every once and while though.

I like HAPPY ENDING, HOPE or PAIN, Liar, GAME, and walking proud. About you isn't too bad, but I don't rank it as highly.

HONEY, Replace, winding road, and even INSPIRE I don't particularly like.

Moments is one of those funny ones I can't decide whether I absolutely love, or absolutely hate.

I know, but I still consider it an extension of GUILTY because of Mirror.

Sub in Mirrorcle World and Life instead of glitter and MY ALL, and it is a decent album.
