Sometimes, if I'm in the mood to hear something loud out of my stereo. Or rather, when I'm home alone and can get away with doing that.

I do listen on CD players which is better than click-it-and-play media players.
I mean its a different experience.

Do boomboxes count? I own a couple of them; one with a cassette and CD player, and one with a CD player and iPod dock. I love listening to CDs sometimes more than iTunes, just to hear an album all the way through on a CD player. Like, when I got my SCANDAL CD, I had been holding off on listening to it until getting it, the first time I listened, it was on the CD player. Last time I actually bought a CD (many a year ago, iTunes rules my life now), I was using my boombox more.

I usually listen with my iPod stereo or iTunes, but I will occasionally pull out one of those boomboxes and listen peacefully.

Last time was 6 years ago xD. Although yesterday I burned a CD and listened to it at school. I can't remember the last time I used an actual CD... 3 years ago?

It's almost completely outdated but I still like the actual concept of physical CD's (although I don't buy them...).

i think the last time i used my portable cd player was in like 2005 i still remember getting an mp3 player when they weren't "cool" yet and being angry about it. "couldn't you have just gotten me a new cd player?!?!" haha--nice child i was... haha

but yeah, it's computer and ipod for me now

HOWEVER, even though I don't use the CDs, I still prefer buying them in their physical forms rather than itunes or something. haha

You guys both reminded me, I may not use CD players to play them as much, but, I still use CDs. If I really really want an artist's entire album, I certainly won't download in iTunes. I lose track of the credit card's limit sometimes, and downloading entire albums might land me in some deep trouble.... And in the case of J-Pop, I'm starting to actually buy it now. It's nice to own J-Pop because, it is easy to download but.... when I think about the U.S. music industry, and what I feel like when I download a song or two from a forum or mediafire, I think about the Japanese music industry. I'd much rather try to get music legally from Japan as I do with American music. And then of course it's all just ripped onto my computer, then put on my iPod. Oh well.

And I also burn CDs to backup stuff I download. Like, I have over 20 CDs just of the few .mp3's I download in iTunes every once in a while, ones that I don't have the entire album of. I hate backing up iTunes the iTunes way, so I just burn CDs. And that way I can also listen to them easily in the car. (no iPod car adapter yet)

So CDs are my source of backing up, and getting most of my legal music. I'll also burn mix CDs for friends' birthdays still, too. Just because it seems more personal than sending an email with links or something (and it's not quite a mix tape, but nearly there).

^psh please. I download anything I can. obviously I like buying physical cds. its a different experience from downloading. but why buy off itunes when you can download it for free? you can't download a physical album. I know I get my money's worth when I go to a store and actually buy something physical and not online.
also I don't think you can make mix tapes for your friends, that's illegally distributing music without permission, and they didn't buy the songs on the cds themselves so in a way they're cheating the artist out of money. (the law is a *****, I know)

And I preffer mp3 players over cd players, I never listen to my cd player anymore. It's just not convenient. I can only listen to what's on the album, or cd that's in it, and It's a hassle to carry around more than one cd and switching them, especially if I'm on the go. yay mix tapes.

also I've never owned an ipod. ;D psp is the way to go for me! internet, photos, music, videos, video games, radio.

^ Is it against the law if I bought the music for them? I downloaded an entire Gundam orgel album off of iTunes for my friend's birthday last month, and burned a CD of it for her. Is it illegal to buy a CD for someone and give it to them? No. I just bought them for her. I'm not offering them as downloads either, and this can happen with a bought CD as a downloaded legally CD, she could always rip it and distribute. But I bought it, and gave it to her. It was a rare Japanese album that was mysteriously put on the U.S. iTunes store, so I snagged it for her. It's not like I downloaded a bunch of stuff from Mediafire and said "Here". If it were as easy as that, why bother? She doesn't own an iPod .mp3 player, so thus she doesn't use iTunes either. I looked around for the album, and I couldn't even find a physical copy to buy. Same with the other CDs I've given to her in the past. Here on AHS, everyone who downloads Ayu .mp3's and albums and other J-Pop artist's stuff, are all illegally downloading music. Some people then re-distribute. Some may own the CDs in real life. If you want to start talking about illegal use and distribution of music on AHS, you'll have a lot of people to say it to. Anyhow... I want to steer this thread away from talk about breaking the law and doing illegal activity.

I thought of another time I use CDs - in the car, especially on roadtrips. In the last 3 years, I've taken about 2 very long roadtrips, one involved actually moving. My family has a lot of cats, so we couldn't quite fly with all them... So we drove a very long way.... And the whole time I had my entire CD collection - albeit, it was very small back then - in the glove box, and playing. Since iPod car adapters are pretty pricy, I always try to keep some of my CDs in the car anytime I go somewhere far.

I used to listen to CDs in the car, but I got one of those things that hooks up my mp3 player to the car stereo. Now, I mostly just buy them to rip them to my computer.

@rainbow: I didn't know you bought the cds for them. I thought you bought them for yourself. then burnt a copy and redistributed it to your friend. that i think, is illegal, but buying it for them is a different story.

ngl, if my friend gave me a burnt cd and said they bought it for me, I'd be fairly confused. XD

and just because I was bored

Well, there are several ways of download legally. What you did is in fact legal in multiple countries, because most consider distribution as a commercial activity, something you clearly didn't do, still I'm not sure about that in the US, and the whole matter isn't completely regulated yet.
Also, if a song or album it's not available in your country, like some underground or unknown J-pop acts, it's not against the law downloading, since there you couldn't buy the music physically (this applies even when you could have ordered the album or buying it online from abroad)

I use my CD player very often when I'm at home. When it's at night and I don't want to bother other people in the house with my music then I'm using my beloved iPod and also when I'm not at home (:
