I think Cher said it best:

Quote:
"I don't give a s--- if she comes out naked. Just be better, do better. Maybe she's thrilled and delighted—everyone's talking about it. And so, that's almost as good as it being great, you know. Especially kind of in this day and age. It doesn't make any difference if you're good. It just makes a difference if people are talking about it."

^ I somehow agree too.
Wrecking Ball was obviously a good song. At first I kind of dislike the MV, but after I really watched thoroughly again, it's a good video IMO. Maybe the nudity was too much, but it's not like she's trying to be sexy and looking for lust like Who owns my heart in the past.
I'm too depressed these days that I can somehow feel related to Miley and pity her in the same time. My only comment is that I hope she'll get over how life treats a 20 years old girl and move on like Ayu

Personally, I think what Miley is doing right now is pure genius marketing. Apart from the fact the music is just better than before, and that's enough for me, but she did just the right thing, at the perfect time and in the perfect way. She needed a MAJOR shock to make people talk about her again, so she changed style, but with intelligence. She performed a (horrible) twerking show, because she needed attention, but in the PV the nude image is classy, and provocative, sure, but very professional. I repeat, genius. I liked her before, but now I'm properly interested.

She also noticed that shock marketing works better if you release good music... A lesson a lot of "shocking" popstars missed entirely

I have to admit that I really like the song Wrecking Ball. I find it to be a much better single than We Can't Stop.

I like both songs equally. We Can't Stop is fun to listen to and Wrecking Ball is an emotional song. She's pretty versatile, actually.

That performance of Wrecking Ball was sad.

her iHeartRadio outfit is so pathetic. I'm not a supporter of the slut shaming she gets, but it was so unflattering and desperate.

And using little people in her performance, shame on you Destiny Hope.

I'm reading a lot about her "use of minorities as props" lately, being it black fat women or little people, and even if I DO get how can this be problematic, one thing just can't get out of my mind...

Who else is hiring those people as pop performers? Could that musicians/dancers get hired by any other top tier celebrity anytime soon? How much of the outrage of the way she is "using" those people comes from the way she is portraying them, and how much comes from we as a society being unconfortable with them? If she isn't the only person doing those stuff (and she isn't), why she is the only one being called out on it?

Questions...

I would say a lot. On top of that, people don't want their ignorance to show, so to hide it, they get overly upset when celebrities "use" them, when the issue really has nothing to do with them. I feel like Miley is just doing the same.

Really, I see this whole Miley issue to be very similar to something Eminem said: That he only does things that will upset people because people get upset. If people didn't get upset, give him the attention that he was seeking, he wouldn't do it.

Its not about being "uncomfortable" is that she's using somebody's condition as a mean to shock, because they're not seen as somnething society deems as normal.
"Oh look at me y'all! I'm using midgets because I'm so crazy that I have little people in my routines!".

They're used as props, when they are human beings and that's pretty disgusting. I like her, but don't tell me to give her a pass when she acts like a jackass.

I'm not saying you should give her a pass or something. It's just something I've been thinking lately regarding all (fair and unfair IMO) criticism towards her. There's a "human as props" factor on her performance (the simply fact that she is using only little people on the performance to give it a "freaky" aspect to it). On the other side, it's not like those people are acting ridiculous on stage or something... They are performing, dancing, playing instruments, using their talents... So, how much of our (as in general, not "you and me" exclusively) negative views of it doesn't come from our own biases as a society (a society she is part of)?

And them again, why are people threating her like the anti-christ when there are more pop musicians doing problematic stuff? I'm not saying "we should give her a pass, everybody is doing that", I'm saying "shouldn't be more people being called out?"

Everyone and everything is used as a prop - whether it be half naked men with rippling abs, or back when Gwen Stefani was using the Harajuku Girls to portray the fashion inspiration of Tokyo, everything is there in order to aid the image the performer is going for.

I don't really think she *uses* them, I think they have fun bein on stage with Miley and that's not wrong imo.

Despite that I really loved her performances, they show that she can sing pretty well and that she really feels what she is singing in "Wrecking Ball".

I didn't love her outfit though...

I think everything the popstars sell us is a prop, in some proportion. If she's using them or not, it depends on us and how we get the news. Much like the promotion Miley is doing with this "shocking image" is working so brilliantly precisely because people is taking it just like she wanted them to do, like the scapegoat for critics. So everyone is judging her minutely and in detail, while they would never take the time and effort to do the same with other singers whom do basically the same thing. Because Miley "wasn't supposed to be like that". She comes from a different image entirely. While Rihanna and company has been like that the whole time, so you can disapprove them, but you don't feel like being outraged, 'cause there's no shock factor.
So, if she's using them, whatever. If you don't care, her using them in fact doesn't exist: she can use them only if we care she does. If that's makes any sense, lol. I'm sorry if I was incomprihensible, my opinion is very clear to me, but I don't think I was able to explain it properly!

Well I am enjoying everything she is doing right now. I am not mad at her.. even though people seem to have a real problem with her. I love Wrecking Ball.. We cant stop and even "23" I think she is just being herself and doing what she has always wanted to do !!! I like her range also lately. Now IM not gonna lie. My sister was with me and I really enjoyed her last season songs for Hannah Montana. It sounded like she got some say versus before O_O

I really love how she looks in the "23" video.. Ive made some graphics.. Whoever did this makeup needs to follow her EVERYWHERE!
