Funnily enough I'm not such a fan of bangs either.
*cashes in on the 'How did you discover Namie?' discussion* Earlier last year I believe, is when I got into her. Funny thing is, my first songs and videos from her were WANT ME, WANT ME and WoWa in 2006. Anyway, didn't think much of HER at the time, even though I just had to download WANT ME, WANT ME and WoWa. I... even thought she looked old and that she wasn't hot or pretty. Oh how my eyes have opened. And I recall vividly the reason why: I was at the pinnacle of my Ayumi Hamasaki obsession. If no one sounded like her, then I couldn't listen to her... and needless to say, Namie has a very different sound. What also didn't help were the rabid Namie fans saying Namie is the queen and Ayumi sucks when I had barely even heard of Namie at the time, let-alone knew who she was.. So my little brain assumed that she wasn't such a big deal, and that Ayumi was so much better. At the time I only listened to her hip-pop songs so as someone not really well-educated in the subject of Japanese music at the time, I thought the likes of SO CRAZY and Put 'Em Up sounded like American knock-offs. Oh how I bad I feel about that now. But then I watched a clip of her performing WoWa at her Space of Hip-Pop tour and remember thinking, "Okay, this isn't for me, but I can respect that." Her performance impressed me. o yeah, I had always had WANT ME, WANT ME and WoWa, but they were always casual songs for me that I had put on my iPod. Oh, right, so... how I got into her. I watched the video to Hide & Seek. In part I have someone on lj to thank for that, because they were talking about this Steven Colbert episode where he makes fun of the Korean singer Rain. So I looked up the clip on youtube and I also looked up Rain music videos. I found this one video where the user was comparing Rain's "I'm Coming" video with Namie's "Hide & Seek" and I thought, "How cool is this?" so I clicked on the video link. Needless to say, I was entranced. It was the best music video I had ever seen. The effects were so cool, Namie looked cool, her costume was HOT, and the song was hot. I kept thinking, "Why is this ***** so hot with her sunglasses and crap? And her hair...! Her face...!" in my head. I kept getting distracted by her when I should have been doing homework. Then I found the video of FUNKY TOWN and fell in love with that, but it still wasn't enough for me to jizz over Namie quite yet. My inner-Namie fan had to be awakened somehow. I then watched the making of "Rock Steady" which I thought was interesting because she worked with Orlando Pita and Patricia Field who are some high-class *****es. fakdhfasdj. After that I actually watched ROCK STEADY and fell in love with that ****. It was pretty much a blur from then on; I had to know more about this *****. So I looked her up, and found some really nice fansites that had lots of information and articles about her. Needless to say, after reading about her life and what she's gone through from her growing up poor and fatherless, her pregnancy, mom's murder, divorce, to her declining popularity after her marriage, I'm couldn't be prouder to call myself a fan.
