It almost looks like it's still long, it's just done in such a way that it's tucked under to make it look shorter...I don't really know how to explain it well.

this seems really plausible. there's a method where you can fold/tie your long hair into a bob style. so basically if that's true then alan has this huge tuff of hair hidden right at the back... haha

Yeah, it's what Lin Chi Ling (Taiwanese actress from Tsuki no Koibito) did yesterday for her SMAP X SMAP appearance, and all through last night's episode I was thinking about how cute her hair looked like that...it looks good on alan too (as long as it's not permanent and this is classified as a once-in-a-while style, lol)
