Every album someone pulls up a possible "cover" from some where to which turns out once the full song is out not to be the same, you can tell its not the same. And anyways ayu always says if shes doing a cover. X-factor basically is people singing other peoples songs or songs that have been arranged for them to sing. Their nothing more than puppets to there agreements for x factor. There's also always people who say someone famous stole there songs too. Madonna gets it a bit

Is this supposed to be about the music, or the lyrics? I thought Ayu wrote new lyrics for Memorial Address and just used the same music?

when did we know that "Beautiful Day", for example, is a cover song? Or it's not called as cover?

It's not a cover, as the lyrics are now and the music is changed from the original. They just bought the right to use the melody.

I know, but the "new"-feeling is gone then. Still it doesnt matter. Tell Me Why sounds really beautiful, so thats something less to bother about.

They changed a bit of the melody, so it's not a complete cover, but so far it sounds quite similar. It's definitely taken from that song, no denying it, the melody, arrangement, mix...all taken more or less from it, though Ayu's version seems darker and less poppy.
BTW: If you change the arrangement and write new lyrics it's still a cover, changing the MELODY is what turns something into a different song entirely(and even then changing one or two notes isn't enough). The reason the (m)u songs are no cover is simply that Ayumi released them before Sweetbox, technically the Sweetbox versions are the cover(which is...quite ironic). Memorial Address IS a cover.

People act like it being a cover(though, not too sure about that yet, we can't know how much they changed, they definitely have something in common, same chords, same melody except for a short middle part, almost a carbon copy arrangement...) is a bad thing. Some extremely popular, succesful and GOOD songs are covers, a good artist makes a cover that is better than the original and so far it appears like Ayumi is doing that.
If you wanna go to the most extreme definition any song not composed by Ayumi/CREA is a cover.

Well, I now have a new artist to totally check...needed some Greek pop anyway =P
Right now my guess is that this is a composition that was sold to multiple labels around the world (thus not in competing markets.) As someone else said it happens a lot between Europe and Asia. If it was sold at the same time, it's technically not a cover I would think. It's usually only a cover when they buy/get permission to use the composition at a later date. Granted the original song here came out in 2009 and it's now 2012. Assuming Ayu first heard of it and wrote lyrics in 2011, it could technically be a cover unless Avex was sitting on the composition for those years. (Ayu said that she's presented with compositions to choose from, and this could've been one of them.) Either way, so long as it's not outright stolen, who cares =P |

kotora, there is an old, I think, Taiwanese song that sounds similar to GREEN. The chorus part, anyway. The uploader of the video accused Ayumi of plagiarism. It was nonsense. You should check out the video for yourself.

I wonder how this song will be credited in the booklet, will be interesting seeing all these new names considering it's usually the same 3/4. I kind of like the original version more than what we have of Ayu's.... oops |
