I was looking through a few magazines I have at home and I stumbled upon this issue of our local teen magazine, TEENAGE. There happenend to be this page which compared Ayumi with Jolin Tsai [wouldn't be suprised if you hadn't heard of her]....

I admit I had nothing better to do xDD

Mirrorcle World came out like a year before Jolin's album... I dunno if they're talking about Mirrorcle World, but it looks like they are, judging from the picture.

I dunno if I actually believe Jolin herself is trying to copy anyways... Like, one of her MVs is a direct copy of Nakashima Mika's SEVEN PV, but I think that was more of the director or something than Jolin going, "Make me an MV that looks just like this!"

they are talking about jolin's butterfly album and ayumi's next level album, i'm pretty sure. they just used a random picture of ayu like they did with mariah and beyonce (mariah's picture has nothing to do with anything they talk about in the little paragraph)

Yes, they were talking about NEXT LEVEL, and one of the covers or something from Jolin.

Hmm... I read this too lol, but I never bothered to scan this cos imo it isn't that important. Thank you still!

hmm, i always have a feeling that jolin's company wanted to portray Jolin as Taiwan ayu..Ayu started becoming famous especially during SEASONS, where her barbie doll image makes her extremely famous. And I can see that image of that in Jolin's 2nd album (from new record company). And from then onwards...i can see many similarities too, in albums and covers etc. And Jolin recently venture into fashion design (that's what Ayu is famous of).

Probably their tastes are really similar or it might be due to the company's intention or..I'm not too sure too.

Oh, haha. I wasn't reading very closely. I think NEXT LEVEL covers were out first though? Because I remember when Jolin's album covers came out, people were saying they were like NEXT LEVEL... Though really the only thing minimally similar was like, the fact that they're colorful.

Jolin needs to learn from Nami Tamaki. Its 100% okay to get inspired by Ayu. Just do it subtely while mixing your own style (which Jolin kinda does sometimes she just plain ripsoff Ayu) and don't DENY IT. haha

I thought they stretched the similarities a little here! I think that Jolin's a known fan of Ayu's, Namie's etc (pommy apparently saw her at the BF tour) so I guess it's kinda natural for her to use Ayu's style. Isn't it kinda like saying Lady Gaga copies Madonna (in fashion/lyrics) so she's crap, and Green Day copied U2 (all-male band) so they're crap also? They may sometimes seem a little similar but they sometimes grasp at straws to make comparisons.

Who knows how much say Jolin gets in her album titles, designs etc?

its ok to be inspire but not to copy past. in an other hand ayu did " rip off " christina aguilera pv and tons of madonna clothes but she always do it tastfully compare to jolin
