I think the sales are ok, considering that there really wasn't any promo and neither remix album really lived up to the previous ayu-mi-xes ...

I don't think so.
If exile release a remix album it would sell more than 100k...

also guilty sold less than secret..also asia tour 2007 sold less than arena tour 2006.. ayumi is no more the most popular artist in japan.

Not the most or as she used to, but she is still very popular
As there aren't a lot of other female artists that sell like her or more
Let alone that she still performs more than 20 performances in huge arenas for a tour and the tickets are selling out like hot cakes. Well ASIA TOUR 2008 had 8+ added performances because of demand
And she is still the 1st/2nd most earning artist/female artist in Japan every year anyway and one of the best selling
Her single just outsold 2 (and maybe 3 soon) of her 2 recent years single.
Not the most, but still. Awesome for a female artist/artist after 10 years.
Almost all can't achieve such things.

^ So true!

There are tons of female artists who got noticed and their popularity was short-lived, in that case and IMO, I can call it "one-hit" wonders.
Its very VERY rare for an artist to have that huge recognitions and miraculous achievements that can earned through performing.

And BTW, is ayu-mi-x 6 already phased out in the charts?

I think that no one here said she is popular like she used to, it's pretty obvious
But also there are blind people that say that she is not popular anymore just as much as there are that saying that she is popular as she used to.

Anyway she was very popular in 2003 had a mini-album that sold over a million.
The RMX WORKS series remix albums were released on that year and they didn't do too far from ayu-mi-x 6, which proves the point that already then, remix albums weren't hot, let alone now, besides the fact that those are 3 and 2 remix albums at one day.

I agree. Allthough RAINBOW didn't sell as much as I am... she still had the H single on the top of the yearly single's chart that year, something she'd never accomplished before. She's still the highest earning female artist in japan, and for Ayumi, it's never really been about one release setting a record, but the massive amount of releases that add up that makes her so big. By the end of the year when all her sales add up, I'm sure we'll see that the remix albums are important for the total number.

But MY STORY sold more than Memorial address
and the RMX WORKS were released before Memorial address not after...

And there was MY STORY classical which is a classical "remix" album and sold more than the RMX WORKS series (and was released after MY STORY).

I think that everything proves the point that remix albums aren't hot anymore, since 2003 already and the fact that more than one that released in a day make the sales even lower.

I don't think that if EXILE would release one it would do amazing but most likely a bit more than ayu-mi-x 6, specially if it's just 1.

In any way ayu-mi-x 6 sure brought some profit for avex. Small invesment, decent sales, good profit.

as if they would have to shut down from poverty tomorrow.

I think ayu-mi-x 6 sold very well considering the very mediocre material.

oh, I wouldn't say that. recently, there was a report that avex' profit went down due to their high costs. I guess it's because they have to put a gazillion PVs on DVD each time and spend a lot for promotion. cd sales aren't that profitable as they used to be. most money income is from digital sales today, because the distribution is very cheap.

ayu-mi-x 6 is mainly for fans and maybe that ayu gets a bit more club rotation. it's not so much about the money as about publicity and diversity.
