for the UK, I would reccomend the beatles lol.... seeing how I'm from the US though, I can't say that, or Black Sabbath.... or AC/DC.... man, my country's music sucks. well, at least the modern music sucks
 I love anything thats rock from 95 and before. of course, I should take that back, it's on a case by case basis.... I hate glam rock...

Practically none of them get radio play. But the American progressive rock/metal scene is full of awesome bands.
