Not sure where to post this but there's a site that tracks weekly iTunes Japan top 50 best selling tracks and Ayu's charted a few times recently.
14/12/22 #13 Movin' on without you 浜崎あゆみ 6,896 / 6,896 14/12/29 #28 Movin' on without you 浜崎あゆみ 1,925 / 8,821 15/01/19 #50 Movin' on without you 浜崎あゆみ 739 / 10,707 14/12/29 #20 Zutto... 浜崎あゆみ 3,601 / 3,601 15/01/05 #20 Zutto... 浜崎あゆみ 2,966 / 6,567 They only show the tracks in the top 50 so they've sold more than that but it's cool to have some figures since digital sales in Japan are always so hard to track! http://www.tnsori.com/

Wow that's nice and those tracks are still charting on Recochoku and had a better performance than what they did on iTunes, so yay!

Most people who were interested in this song probably already got it physically in the single/RAINBOW/A BEST 2 -BLACK-so it's probably the popularity of the song that got that many people to download it as well and it took that long. Songs that had digital popularity were songs that were hits and released from 2003-2004 onwards. Last edited by ayumisrael; 20th February 2015 at 11:53 PM. |

Yeah, and artists that are experiencing their top nowadays sell a lot more digitally than physically, talking about singles. Like Nishino Kana, her singles can't reach 30k but she always is at least gold certified for each single. And also they can't sell like ayu did years ago, even experiencing great digital sales it's nothing like what CDs used to sell, so hardly someone will break ayu's streak.
btw @ayumisrael where did you get this info from? Could you post the link please?

Of course! And kana is a good example for an artist that grew popular after 2003 and she sold digitally better than physically especially in singles (even though her 2nd original album sold around 750,000). Even kuu sold better digitally especially in singles (but she were at a time were singles still sold physically better in general). AKB48 succeeds both physically and digitally but their physical success is based on 200,000-400,000 people buying multiple versions constantly for years of their singles because of live events, meetings, lives tickets etc. |
