His compositions are not unique. He's just taken other genres and made them crappier. It makes me cringe thinking that some ayu fan's only exposure to jazz and swing music could be the next love and eyes, smoke, magic.

It isn't trust me. I mean that they are unique in ayu's career, and her career only, not generally in the said genre.

^As a POP musician, I don't think she was trying to reach a new elevated way of performing jazz... This is pop music: watered down version of much complex music genres for the masses...

I think Timmy has a good job with PQ and HBYA, I love the rap of NaNaNa I thought it would be worse.

Timmy is okay, why would he compose some really underground and experimental thing for her when she's obviously still mainstream She isn't an Indie singer yet LOL And she probably picked what she liked and chose the final results. It's not his decision as he said, it's all what ayu wants and it's not really up to him what becomes part of her work or not, she has the last word.

And I'm happy with what they've achieved so far, he said he was working on a new song a few days ago and said it was going to be good and sad, or something.

Agreed. I mean, yes this is pop, but he still could have done a better job. Its not impossible to take a complex genre and water it down for the pop masses. I mean, I like the next LOVE a lot, but its still the most basic, stereotypical jazz song ever. He's mediocre at best, for me. I've heard pop-jazz done well, that sounds truly unique, and it blows Timmy's stuff out of the water.

The main difference between timmy and for example DAI + yuta nakano is that Timmy cannot compose songs for Ayu's voice. Those musical songs are plain horrible, and they work for best with voices like Aguilera's (for example). And HBYA.... I'm not even going there

IMO hbya fits well for Ayu's voice. Don't get why people call it 'too western' or not ayuish when it sounds like some of her ballads. And it's not like Timmy is forcing Ayu to choose his songs lol. If Ayu loves that song we can't complain about Timmy.

I kinda agree that the jazzy songs aren't that unique though, but it's always nice to hear Ayu doing something different. Timmy is like a breath of fresh air, as much as I love her usual composers she have to change. Or she wouldn't be the Ayu I know.

Everytime Ayu approaches a genre for a random song, she does it on the most stereotypical way. 1Love did it with Hard Rock, Bold & Delicious did it with the gospel choir, Guilty heavier tracks did it with melodic metal, and it goes on... More than being innovative, I guess the overall idea is being easily recognizible for people who aren't that aware of the genre...

I would disagree with Bold & Delicious, it has a gospel choir, sure, but I don't think that it sounds like a typical gospel song. And I've been to enough churches to know.

^It doesn't sound like a gospel song, but the choir is used on the most stereotypical way possible, as I believe there are far more innovative ways of using it (Madonna's Like a Prayer comes to mind)

IMO it's not about making innovative music, but about creating "images" to the listener through elements token from different aesthetics...
